If you're in the market for a feel-good life-affirming family film, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL might be up your alley. Based on the book of the same name, the flm tells the true story of a young boy who, after a life-altering near-death experience, claims to have visited Heaven. What could easily be chalked up to a little kid telling wild tales is soon backed up by details that the child couldn't possibly know (names of deceased relatives, facts about the deaths of loved ones, etc.).
The interesting thing here is that, unlike many Christian-themed films, this one does not seem to be suffering from the budget and production restrictions that often relegate these projects to the Hallmark channel or straight to DVD. There are recognizable actors taking part, including Greg Kinnear, Thomas Hayden Church and Kelly Reilly, the film was scripted by Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace (who is also directing), and it looks as though this film is going to be getting a solid mainstream rollout when it opens in April.
