It looks like another horror remake is gaining steam as Variety is reporting that Paramount has selected 28 WEEKS LATER director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to lead it’s PET SEMATARY remake. Matt Goldberg (1408; HALLOWEEN: H20) and David Kajganich (THE INVASION; upcoming remake of IT) wrote the screenplay for the remake to the 1989 hit. The original was based on Stephen King’s novel and he also wrote the screenplay for it.
This is actually the kind of remake I can get behind. While the original is a good film and has its moments, it is dated and Fresnadillo is a talented filmmaker. The original is no CARRIE and could be improved upon. The screenwriters leave a lot to be desired though but this is much more of an inspired remake idea than POLTERGEIST, HALLOWEEN or A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
