Deadline is reporting that Marvel is developing a second TV series set in the “Avengers” movie universe.
The new project would focus on the Hayley Atwell character from “Captain America: First Avenger” and what she was up to while her boyfriend was frozen in ice.
It’s unclear whether Atwell (who made for a spectacular romantic interest in the movie) will reprise the role for the TV series, but she already reprised the Peggy Carter role for a short on the upcoming “Iron Man 3” Blu-ray.
Atwell has appeared in a number of short-term TV projects in recent years, including the miniseries versions of "Pillars of the Earth" and "The Prisoner."
As the Deadline piece points out, ABC likes TV series with female leads.
Marvel is seeking a writer for the project. There's no mention of any involvement of "Avengers" writer-director Joss Whedon (who reportedly did a fair bit of ghostwriting on "Captain America") -- but Whedon now consults on all of Marvel's projects, so who knows?
Whedon's first TV project for ABC, "Agents of SHIELD," hits ABC on Tuesday.
