Michael Sheen and Juno Temple Added to FAR FROM THE MADDENING CROWD as Filming Begins!

Filming has begun and Fox Searchlight has rounded out casting of their adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel, Far From the Maddening Crowd.

In July, it was announced that Carey Mulligan (AN EDUCATION, THE GREAT GATSBY), Matthias Schoenaerts (BULLHEAD) and Tom Sturridge (ON THE ROAD) would be starring in the film. Today, it was announced that the will be joined by Michael Sheen (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) and Juno Temple (KILLER JOE, MAGIC MAGIC) will be joining them, as filming beings in the U.K.

Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

The full press release can be found below. No word yet on when Fox is hoping to open the film, but the cast is shaping up to be pretty impressive.

Fox Searchlight Pictures announced that Thomas Vinterberg’s Far From The Madding Crowd has begun principal photography in the UK today, September 16th. The film stars Carey Mulligan (THE GREAT GATSBY, DRIVE), Matthias Schoenaerts (RUST AND BONE, BULLHEAD), Michael Sheen (MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, FROST/NIXON), Tom Sturridge (ON THE ROAD, PIRATE RADIO) and Juno Temple (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, KILLER JOE). The script was written by David Nicholls, author and screenwriter of “One Day” and “Starter for Ten.” Allon Reich and Andrew Macdonald of DNA Films are producing with Christine Langan of BBC Films executive producing. The film will shoot on location in Dorset, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London.
