Jack Black to star in a big screen adaptation of GOOSEBUMPS!?!?!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

Here is our bizarre news story for today, The Wrap is reporting that Jack Black is in talks to star in a big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine’s popular, 90’s children’s book series, GOOSEBUMPS. If he signs on he would be reunited with his GULLIVER’S TRAVELS director, Rob Letterman.

It doesn’t sound like this film will have any connection to the original stories as Black will reportedly portray, “a Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations.”

Again, this sounds like another case of a studio (Sony) attempting to cash in on any brand recognition there might be. This is becoming a trend and despite the failure of THE LONE RANGER, BATTLESHIP, and several book adaptations, this trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all.

I really loved Jack Black in Richard Linklater's BERNIE, (speaking of Linklater and Black, SCHOOL OF ROCK is ten-years-old!) and I wish he would continue to attach himself to interesting properties as he has a lot of talent. I couldn’t finish GULLIVER’S TRAVELS though, and this sounds like it might end up like that.

What do you guys think? Any other GOOSEBUMPS fans? If so what was your favorite story growing up? (Mine was NIGHT OF THE LIVING DUMMY)
