Julianne Moore Joins the Cast of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

We've got some casting news for you today on the HUNGER GAMES front. Julianne Moore has just signed on for THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY in the role of Alma Coin, the president of District 13, who leads a rebellion against the Capitol. While I haven't ready any of the HUNGER GAMES books, from what I can gather, like any good politician, she has a bit of two-faced-ness about her, and Katniss is not entirely sure she is trustworthy.

Here's the official press release:

Lionsgate announced today that four-time Academy Award® nominee Julianne Moore (BOOGIE NIGHTS, THE HOURS, THE END OF THE AFFAIR and FAR FROM HEAVEN) has joined the cast of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PARTS 1 & 2 as President Alma Coin, the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol.

Moore will star opposite Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the third and fourth installments of the global blockbuster HUNGER GAMES franchise, slated for release in November 2014 and November 2015, respectively. She will join new cast members including Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson and Evan Ross.

In addition to her four Oscar-nominated roles, Moore has previously starred in CRAZY STUPID LOVE, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT, CHILDREN OF MEN and last year’s HBO political drama film GAME CHANGE, which netted her an Emmy®, Golden Globe® and SAG Award®. She will next be seen in DON JON, SEVENTH SON and CARRIE.

Mockingjay was the third and final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, and (not surprisingly) it will be divided into two films. Part 1 will open on November 21, 2014, and Part 2 will open a year later, on November 20, 2015.

Of course, we still have CATCHING FIRE opening later this fall. I enjoyed the first film, but I am more excited to see how the upcoming CATCHING FIRE will expand the world and politics set up the first time around.

What do you guys think? I like Julianne Moore in pretty much anything, but if you've read the books, how do you see her playing this character?
