Hey guys! Horrorella here...
There is definitely some interesting stuff coming out of TIFF this year. Set to premiere tomorrow is Richard Ayoade's new comedy, THE DOUBLE. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as Simon, and everyday guy who runs into his doppleganger one day on his way to work. Little by little, he finds that the doppleganger is usurping his life, and is better at being Simon than Simon himself. Where Simon is quiet and insecure, the double exudes a strong confidence and manages the daily pitfalls of Simon's life with a grace that Simon himself has never known.
The film is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novella of the same name, and was co-written by Ayodae, alongside Avi Korine. Ayodae is probably most well-known for his work on the British television comedy THE IT CROWD. His previous directorial effort was 2010's THE SUBMARINE.
Check out the trailer below. It doesn't do a whole lot to convey the fact that the film is being billed as a comedy, but it is fascinating, nonetheless. The film co-stars Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor and Yasmin Paige.
