John Welles and Jack Orman, the writers who oversaw “ER” during its strongest creative era, are reteaming with NBC for a pilot based on Wolfgang Petersen’s 1995 big screen smash “Outbreak.”
The feature, which stars Dustin Hoffman and bears more than a passing resemblance to Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 hit “Contagion,” follows a group of scientists trying to head off a lethal worldwide pandemic.
NBC loves turning movies into TV shows. “Friday Night Lights” enjoyed a long run on the network while “Parenthood” and “Hannibal” are both returning to next season’s schedule, joined by a small-screen version of “About A Boy.” The network also recently announced it is developing a series with Ben Stiller based on his 1994 romantic dramedy “Reality Bites.”
