This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: SciFi Explosion with a dash of comedy and a pinch of drama!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here chiming in from Vegas with this week's lovely layout of film short films submitted by AICN readers like you and me. This week we're covering a small handful of different genres, because why not? I was originally going to focus only on science fiction, but there's a few films I've been holding on to for a while and couldn't ignore any longer. Whatever the case, once again I feel confident you'll dig at least one of the shorts below (if not all of them!), so kick back and enjoy your Saturday by taking a dip in the short end of the cinematic pool. Let's check out some damn fine films, eh?

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

I'M SUCH A CARRIE

TRT: 1:01

(Comedy)

And to kick things off with a smile we've got a film that knows it's joke, gets in, and gets out before it loses steam. Check out Adam Catino's SEX AND THE CITY bender.

MOTHERLAND

TRT: 5:29

(Animatiom)

Next up we have a short from Mo Rahman. So here's a film that I'm sure you could call... devise. I like it becuase it's got some really interesting imagery and it's incredibly creative. It's a tad slow, but I still can't resist it's charm. (It very much reminds me of this banned kid's show.)

MUTT

TRT: 3:33

(Drama)

From Nicholas Santos, we get MUTT, a story of "a girl, a dog, and a sickness." The film feels organic in a way that's hard to describe. Great acting. Beautiful shots. Quality work. Be sure to check out Santos's website for more info/news/shorts.

FALLING APART

TRT: 5:55

(Science Fiction)

SATURDAY SHORTS alum (THE CONFESSION) Thomas Hefferon has our next film, a result of a 48 hour film competition, though doesn't look or feel rushed at all. According to Hefferon, he and his team of creative folks are in the process of creating a feature inspired by the short, "a paranoid Science Fiction/Horror in the vein of ”Moon” and ”The Crazies”." Based on this short, I'm there - bring on the feature!

SAVE THE KISS

TRT: 3:11

(Superhero Comedy)

And to stick the SATURDAY SHORTS landing for this week, we've got a different type of superhero film. From Stephen Vitale we get "zero deaths, but a lot of bickering." "It plays with the genre moment of the superhero kiss and the identity reveal. It stars comedian Jake Nordwind and actress Genevieve Farrell." If you like what you see, go hit up Vitale's website!

Bam! As always, I hope you ladies and gents had a good time with this week's selection. Sure, it was a bit all over the place, but that's how I like it - never knowing what's next. On a side note, if you find yourself in Las Vegas this weekend (8/3-8/4) - hit me up or toss me some advice on what to see/do. (EVIL DEAD musical is on the board, seeing it tonight). Or if you're in the mood for more shorts, bam - I got you:

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capactiy, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
