Fox has released the trailer for Ben Stiller's latest directorial effort, THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. In the film, Stiller plays the role of a quiet photo editor at Life Magazine, who escapes the monotony of his day-to-day existence by retreating into a series of larger-than-life fantasies. It co-stars Adam Scott, Sean Penn, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine. The film is based on a short story written by James Thurber, which was first adapted into a movie in 1947, starring Danny Kaye.
Here is the official plot synopsis:
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
Check out the trailer below. I love the reserved elegance on display here. If this footage is any indication, this film looks to be drastically different from what we have seen from Stiller thus far, and one to definitely keep an eye on.
