John Ary here with a look at The Conjuring, an aptly told paranormal story that features the ghostbusting duo of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens.
Director James Wan based the film on documented events that took place in the 70's. This retro vibe makes the film feel almost like a contemporary with past paranormal flicks like The Changeling, The Exorcist or The Legend of Hell House.
The scares worked for me thanks to a strong ensemble of performers, good cinematography and the capable storytelling ability of Wan.
