**** There is going to be a Festival in VARSOVIA from July 5th - 16th which will show more than 30 films from Latin America , which is going to cover Classic movies all the way until the movies in the early 90's.

I am sending you this because I would like to see this Girl on more movies from Hollywood, because she has talent, you see as you know already she is a singer and one of her songs is in the movie ANASTASIA , she is also an actress in the Telenovelas down here in Mexico and her acting is so convincing that her work has travel around the world (even CHINA) So I think that she can really make it up there (Big Time) , because let's face it she has more than just Talent ..
But last time I heard of her , she said that she wasn't interested in Hollywood , she likes singing and that she will dedicate all her time and effort to that instead of the Acting in Hollywood.... So to bad for us and her , but hopefully somebody will see her talent and make of her a STAR like SALMA HAYEK, JENNIFER LOPEZ, PENELOPE CRUZ or ANGELINA JOLIE...
Anyways here is a picture of her in the poster of a movie she did up there called MAMBO CAFE where she plays a girl from PUERTO RICO and has as co-actors PAUL RODRIGUEZ , ROSANNA DE SOTO and DANNY AIELLO.

The first movie of SALMA HAYEK in Spain "LA GRAN VIDA" will be internationally released by Columbia-TriStar. That's what I read on a Magazine here in Mexico City. Also is mentioned that the movie is about a guy that wants to kill himself until he meets this beautiful woman who makes him want to live, but there is a problem he had signed a paper kind of a contract for a Million dollars $$$ and ......--- I let the rest to you if you have the chance to see it okay. Other actors that worked in this movie are Carmelo Gomez and Tito Valverde, the script was written by Fernando Leon and Carlos Asory and as the director there is Antonio Cuadri.

"SOÑANDO CON JULIA" / DIANA BRACHO & HARVEY KEITEL
The filming of the movie "SOÑANDO CON JULIA" started already in Republica Dominicana , this film is based on the separation of Cuban families after the Revolution in 1959 of Fidel Castro, which I think is pretty cool but @ the same time is a topic that for a lot of people is way to old now since the situation with the boy Elian Gonzalez, but also if you think about it , it might give us some kind of answer on why the people start living Cuba and also why some others decided to stay. This has been a dilemma for me...Anyways back on the subject... The movie is directed by JUAN GERARD(Cuba) who resides outside Cuba , has also the Mexican actress DIANA BRACHO and the actor HARVEY KEITEL(Reservoir dogs).
THE OTHER CONQUEST / LA OTRA CONQUISTA
DIANA BRACHO also worked in the movie "LA OTRA CONQUISTA"(The Other Conquest) which is one more of those Epic films like CABEZA DE VACA, 1492, LA MISSION, and another one that is in the works called "CHACALES". I personally enjoy a lot this type of films, specially the way their cinematography and photography are, the customs, everything I think is very cool , maybe is because I am a big fan on Epics but the way they are done really takes you back on that time and somehow you get caught inside the movie, which I think is pretty cool.... This movie is about the Conquest of the Aztecs after the arrival of Hernan Cortes arrival and colonization, the towns of the Aztecs get burned and massacred and a lot of them get slaughtered letting the ground of the sacred temples and cities cover in blood. There is a survivor on this and the name of that Aztec guy is Topiltzin who later is forced to learn the new culture and to know the new gods...... Is a Gooddddd movie ....

I think it might be interesting to let you know what I found out about Jurassic Park 3. I was reading an article in ABC (the most respected newspaper here in Spain) that said more or less everything I had read in you page regarding the JP3 project (you know the story about the dinos in Costa Rica, and the possible titles for the film), when something caught my attention.
According to ABC, the screenplay is being written by William Goldman, Craig Rosenberg, Joe Johnston and Spielberg himself!.
Also the article has some words form Johnston stating that Spielberg gave him "free power", but that the whole story is based on one of Spielberg ideas. And also, that Spielberg told him not to imitate what he had previously done.
The article goes on saying that Richard Attenborough, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum are already signed, and that Katheleen Turner may be the surprise.
Adios, El hispano.
LOBO here again... This sounds just great, just thinking that Joe Johnston, Craig Rosemberg and William Goldman are together on this one, it just looks great already, I mean K-mon this guys have worked in several movies and so far they have done a great job. Let's see this guys have worked in Jumamji, Ghost and the Darkness, Heat, Good will Hunting, Rocketeer, Iron Giant etc.... I mean this guys have a big chance to really make their Resume ($$) bigger. Even more Joe Johnston has worked several times with Lucas and Spielberg and this time he has FREE POWER. Also it seems that this guy are going to be in Hawaii soon and it is scheduled to be released on 2001 sometime.

Hey Central... Ulysses reporting.
Mission: Impossible 2 broke records last weekend at the Argentine box office. It tallied 1.3 million, which resulted in the second best bow in history, right after Titanic.
Woody Allen´s Sweet and Lowdown opened at fifth in just 16 screens. You see, all of his films are event movies in this country where he has a very large and extremely loyal fan base. For instance, Annie Hall is one of the biggest grossers of all time and Deconstructing Harry became one of the most impressive and leggy hits of 98. But Argentineans also have the same type of passion for Ingmar Bergman, whose work receives homage in many of Allen´s films.
Human Resources, a small French drama, debuted strongly at ninth in a very slim 9 screens. This is a film that I am dying to see, as the reviews have been among the best of the year and it recently won the Best Picture prizel at the Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires.
In the next few weeks competition for theater patrons down here will be fierce, as the Winter holidays begin, giving place to what is traditionally the busiest frame of the year. Dinosaur, The Patriot, X-Men and a local animation product called Corazon are posed to become the biggest attractions this season.

-Pablo Villaça from the Cinema em Cena website, Click Here to visit,
sent me this interesting scoop about a new movie from director Helvécio
Ratton , who directed one of my favorite Brazilian movies of the last
few years , " Menino Maluquinho " ( pictured below ) , based on the
comic strip of the same name by the great Ziraldo .
Anyway Helvécio´s
latest film will be called " Uma Onda no Ar " . The screenplay was
written by Jorge Durán ( Pixote : A Lei do mais Fraco ) and it is
loosely inspired on the real story of a community radio that operates
in a slum in the city of Belo Horizonte . The script deals with the
founders of this radio station who struggle to keep the station going
despite the fact that the police and local politicians don´t want it
to stay on the air , and that they don´t have a permit to broadcast .
The shoot will happen mostly in studios , but some sequences are going
to shot on locations , real slums in the suburbs of Belo Horizonte .
Sounds neat to me .
-The release of Disney´s " Dinosaur " will be the widest ever in Brazil
with 320 screens showing the movie . The previous record holder was
" Armageddon " with 313 . Another fact that makes this release unique
is the fact that ninety percent of those 320 copies of the film will
be dubbed and only the remaining ten percent will be subtitled .

That Thalia is one gorgeous woman. I hope she has acting skill to back up her looks, though. I guess I'll wait and see. And the JP3 stuff is kinda interesting. Hopefully that thing about not imitating or copying what Spielberg has done before comes true. Oh yeah, one more thing. I'M FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool; Neill and Attenborough? Sounding better than The Lost World already. I certainly hope this one is more intelligently developed than TLW; the original was so much better, because it had at least some intelligence behind dinos ripping everything to shreds... I really want to see more connection to the first film too. Remember the scene in which Nedry is killed? His dropping that shaving cream can/make-shift incubator and it being covered in mud was to prominant to not have any significance at all.

Now I as a film-lover adore the works of Spielberg(most of them anyway), but him helping in the writing of JP3 doesn't sound too appealing to me. "Why?" You ask. Because he tends to get over-emotional, and we will probably be subjected to some animal rights message throughout the film, until we break into girations caused by the epilectic siezures from all of this P.C crap shoved down our throats! This crap ruined "The Lost World", a film that could have been a cool "Aliens"-style film about hunting down dinos, but instead turned into a multi-million dollar "hunting is bad" public service announcement with cool visual effects. The T-rexes should have been shot, they ate people!!!! According to the film's evolutionary message though, "they were just following their instincts", well, according to evolution isn't it man's instinct to hunt whether he eats the kill or not? Why should we feel sorry for the poor locked-up dinosaur, but be angry at the man? If I want to learn about politics, I definitely won't go to a monster movie to become informed!!!! Stop it Hollywood, please stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, maybe I got a little too angry. Bye.

As everybody in the chat knows, I've been a silly little cheerleader for this film ever since I read the absolutely incredibly cool script. This movie is going to simply rock. The plotting of the story is so subtle and insidious that when the violence really starts, it'll broadside you. I cannot wait for this to actually hit a screen - it may be one of the best movies of the year (well, next year).

Please don't let this column change into just an otra pop news item list. As a young Mexican National living and going to school in the states my hope is that this page will help keep me in touch with Mexico film and stars as well as otra Latino news stories. I guess you need to cover such pop stuff to call attention to this part of AICN and that is good, I guess, just don't loose the south of the border focus. There are a bunch of us that need that and that makes the site really different and especial.

Time for a reality check on Bill Goldman. Bill, you can't write a book complaining about every thing that's wrong with Hollywood today and then write a piece of crap like "MI:2". That movie was a blatant rip-off of "Notorious", "Darkman", and Michael Mann's "Last of the Mohicans", to name but a few. Whole scenes and even dialogue was stolen from "Notorious." (The race track scene is the most blatant evidence of this.) The evil henchman disguised as the hero being killed by the villain? "Darkman". The hero leaving the girl in the hands of the bad guys after he tells her to "Stay alive" and jumps from a building/ waterfall? "Last of the Mohicans." The film even stole from its predecessor, M:I, with the derivation on the guywire/trapeze infiltration bit. (Which was stolen from "Topkapi".)
Let's face it, the only thing that saved "face" for M:I 2, was John Woo. (Hmmm, come to think of it, he did make "Face Off", didn't he?) Maybe Goldman will write an original story for JP3, instead of stealing so much of his ideas from other writers... -

Bill Goldman didn't write MI:2--that was Robert Towne! And yes, Towne stole much of it and wound up with something that didn't quite work, but at least blame the right guy. No one else caught this? No one else reading?
