Greetings, all. Ambush Bug here. Well, it looks like this fall we’re getting another installment of CHILD’S PLAY, even though I know the series isn’t using that title anymore. CURSE OF CHUCKY, the latest installment of the never-ending story of Charles Lee Ray, will be heading straight to BluRay and DVD instead of theaters. Not that I hated the latter installments (I actually found both BRIDE and SEED to be pretty well done), but there’s just something cool about the first two installments of the series before they went all out comedy with the whole business. From CURSE OF CHUCKY’s synopsis, it seems they at least are returning to some darker territories; Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.Don Mancini is back for this installment, which is promising news since he’s written or co-written almost all of the Chucky installments. And it’s good to know Brad Dourif hasn’t gotten sick of voicing the little bastard yet. Plus it’s cool to see Dourif keepin’ it in the family by having his daughter Fiona star in this one. Here’s hoping there’s still enough life in Chucky’s batteries for some good old possessed doll scares!
