Channing Tatum On His Role In (And The Filming Of) The Wachowskis' JUPITER ASCENDING!!

Channing Tatum recently spoke to Collider about his work on Andy and Lana Wachowski’s JUPITER ASCENDING, in which he appears alongside Milla Kunis.  As with all Wachowski pictures, little is known about the project at this point, and WHAT IS KNOWN sounds batshit crazy.

In his discussion with Collider, Tatum doesn’t reveal much in the way of plot regarding JUPITER ASCENDING, but does offer a SLIGHTLY SPOILERY hint about his chararacter.  Nothing too crucial from the sounds of it, but funky...so if you ant to know nothing, be warned.

We are breaking ground on—I mean it’s a tough shoot.  We’re doing stuff that’s never been done, inside the camera, in the CG world, and the physical stuff.  There’s very little, if not no, digital stuntmen in the movie.  All the stuff is really real and it’s been hard figuring it out because they don’t like doing anything that’s been done before.

...says Tatum HERE at Collider, where he also says...

“I’m a splice, splices are essentially built in a test tube.  I’m a hybrid wolf and human.  And half albino, so I’m a little defective.”

Before CLOUD ATLAS, I found the Wachowskis to be a tremendously mixed bag - often soaring in vision but frustratingly scattered in their execution. For all of its warts (dodgy make-up) and imperfections (pacing), I hold tremendous affection for CLOUD ATLAS. I don’t know that I would consider it a ‘classic’ in terms of flawless artistry or execution - but I do think it will eventually stand the test of time and memory as a potent demonstration of bold audacity, daring conceptualization, and touching earnestness. Now, more than ever, I’m profoundly eager to see what this duo comes up next...so fingers crossed.
