New This Week

1994’s “The Stand,” about a plague that wipes out 99% of humanity, is probably the best Stephen King miniseries ever forged, and there have been a zillion of them.

It’s certainly the best thing ever directed by Mick Garris, who went on to direct other King-related projects like the “Shining” TV movie, “Riding The Bullet,” “Desperation” and “Bag of Bones.”

He certainly lucked into a great cast headed by Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Laura San Giacomo, , Bill Fagerbakke, Rob Lowe, Ray Walston, Warren Frost, Ossie Davis, Ruby DeeJamey Sheridan, Miguel Ferrer, Matt Frewer, and Shawnee Smith.

With commercials it ran eight hours. On DVD it runs six. A lot of entertainment for $11.86, I say.
