MSN-UK posted the first teaser trailer for the Princess Diana biopic (appropriately called DIANA) earlier today. The film, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and written by Stephen Jeffreys, stars Naomi Watts in the title role. The film will cover the last two years of Diana's life, and looks to tell the story of her secret romance with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan.
Although the trailer is short, it includes a lot of footage - much of which is recongizable from various paparazzi photos that were taken and were circulating in publication at the time of the story. I am already eagerly looking forward to Watts's performance. If there is anyone who could elegantly capture the Princess's grace and vulnerability, I would put my money on her.
DIANA will open in the UK on September 20th. While no release date has been announced for the U.S. yet, I imagine we should see it this fall, just in time for Oscar season.
