Howdy do, everyone, Papa Vinyard here.
Just in time for E3, Dreamworks and Electronic Arts have unveiled our first look at the upcoming video game adaptation NEED FOR SPEED. It's mostly behind-the-scenes footage of some high-octane car chases in some fancy, schmancy rides, but at :48 we get a peek at what looks like some cut-together footage featuring stars Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper. While this could easily fall into the GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE trap of having the BTS stuff come off cooler than the actual film, I have to admit that these chases do look like they were ripped straight from the games themselves. Director Scott Waugh made some waves with his debut feature, ACT OF VALOR (despite what you think of the film, the action in it got a whole mess of accolades), and this seems like an ideal, visual-heavy follow up. If the script and the cast, which also includes Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, and Imogen Poots, can measure up to the visceral mayhem hinted at here, then we could be in store for one of the first true knockout video-game movies.
And who doesn't love Aaron Paul? If nothing else, his Twitter account should be enough to convince you that he has more than enough personality to finally headline his own decently-budgeted feature. If it's not, start watching BREAKING BAD already…what's wrong with you?
NEED FOR SPEED crosses the finish line on March 14, 2014.
