Sorry I have been away most of this week, but I have some cool news to share with you guys. Roger Friedman over at Showbiz411 is reporting that Mel Gibson is going to play the villain in THE EXPENDABLES 3. Friedman is careful to point out that nothing has been confirmed yet, but he said that his source “seemed serious”.
I know Gibson has a lot of issues personally, but I think he is a great actor and a good director. I really enjoyed both THE BEAVER and GET THE GRINGO and he demonstrated to me that he still has it and he still cares.
We haven’t seen much of Gibson as a villain, but we will have a better idea of what we can expect after MACHETE KILLS is released in September. He does seem to be playing to his public image of being a loud, angry, lunatic. Our society is very forgiving so if he makes a solid movie or two, he will go back to having a lot more freedom with his roles and projects. Ultimately, that is what we all want, (APOCALYPTO is a great film).
THE EXPENDABLES 3 opens on August 15, 2014 and is gearing up to shoot this summer so stay tuned because there will be some cast announcements coming soon.
