Bobby Cannavale, so memorable as the psychotic lead villain Gyp Rosetti in last year’s season of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” is reportedly negotiating to reteam with “Boardwalk” creators Terrence Winter and Martin Scorsese (and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger) for a potential (and so far untitled) HBO pilot about the rock & roll business.
Created by Winter, Jagger and Scorsese, the project is another period piece, set in 1977 New York. Cannavale would play a coked-up, newly promoted record executive negotiating the city’s punk, rap and disco scenes.
Scorsese shot both the Winter-scripted “Boardwalk” pilot and the 2008 Rolling Stones documentary “Shine A Light.”
Cannavale, a former regular on “Third Watch,” “100 Centre Street” and the 2009 revival of “Cupid”) counts among his big-screen credits “The Station Agent,” “Snakes on a Plane,” “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “The Other Guys” and “Parker.”
