Beaks here...

After a couple of false starts over the last decade, Bill Willingham's acclaimed DC/Vertigo comic FABLES is moving forward as a feature film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, A ROYAL AFFAIR's Nikolaj Arcel will direct from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, who recently wrote the script for Josh Trank's FANTASTIC FOUR reboot. Together they'll tackle Winningham's series about fairy tale characters and folk heroes who've been forced to seek refuge in New York City after being exiled from their homeland. The comic book has won an impressive fourteen Eiseners, and was previously developed as a movie by the Jim Henson Company, then as a television show for both NBC and ABC. That these networks moved forward with GRIMM and ONCE UPON A TIME may seem suspicious, but no one sued, so I guess everyone's cool with how this all worked out?

FABLES will be produced by Heyday Films, which brought the Harry Potter series to the big screen. They've got a talented director and screenwriter in place. Fans of the comic should be very excited.
