Who wants to hear about a remake of SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE!?!

Hey Yo! Draven here.

I know that most of us have negative feelings toward remakes, and most of you are probably going to hate this news. Deadline is reporting that we are going to be getting an American remake of the first part of Park Chan Wook’s VENGEANCE TRILOGY, SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura (TRANSFORMERS 1-3, G.I. JOE) and Mark Vahradian will be producing the film. The plot follows “a recently laid off factory worker kidnaps his former boss' daughter, hoping to use the ransom money to pay for his sister's kidney transplant.” It is a lot more complicated than that and having seen the film, I wonder how this will be adapted for American audiences.

I will hold off getting excited or angry about this project until they announce a director and the cast. I am also interested to see how Spike Lee’s remake of OLDBOY will do this fall both critically and commercially. This can work if they keep the original's themes and don't "water it down".

What do you guys think of this news? Do you think it is possible to adapt this successfully for American audiences? Who do you want to see direct this? Who do you want in the lead role?
