It’s official according to The Hollywood Reporter, there will be a CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON 2 and it will have the subtitle of THE GREEN DESTINY. Original star, Michelle Yeoh will return for the sequel reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien with Donny Yen starring alongside her. The sequel to the 2000 original hit film is expected to begin filming soon, so I’d imagine we will see this in 2014.
The film’s screenplay is all ready to go and is based on the fifth novel in the CRANE IRON PENTALOGY, IRON KNIGHT, SILVER VASE. Martial Arts Choreographer, Yuen Wo Ping is going to direct the script that was written by John Fusco (YOUNG GUNS, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM).
The Weinstein Company will distribute the film and Harvey Weinstein said in a release, "I loved Ang Lee's film, I thought it was a master class in directing, but I know we are in fantastic hands with Yuen Wo Ping directing the second installment of Crouching Tiger. Master Yuen worked with me on Iron Monkey, Kill Bill and now Grandmaster.He is a first-class director and choreographer, and I am thrilled to be teaming up with him once more. With John Fusco's incredible script and the dream team of Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh we are in great shape.”
I am a big fan of the original and the casting so far is exciting but is there any way the guy who wrote THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM and HIDALGO can top Ang Lee’s original? I don’t think so.
