It only took eighty-three years, but we've finally got our first feature adaptation of William Faulkner's classic of American literature, AS I LAY DYING. It's a passion project for director-cowriter James Franco, who, judging from this first trailer, seems to have at least captured the novel's bleak atmosphere. But can he summon up the visuals to match Faulkner's majestic prose? We'll find out what critics think when the film premieres at this month's Cannes Film Festival.
