DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Adds To Its Cast, While An Official Plot Summary Surfaces!

Caesar of the Apes

Beaks here...

Thanks to a heads-up from Slashfilm, I just learned that the always interesting Toby Kebbell and CSI star Enrique Murciano have joined the cast of Matt Reeves's currently shooting DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. They join a formidable group that already includes Gary Oldman, Keri Russell (so great on this past season of THE AMERICANS), Jason Clarke, Judy Greer and, of course, Andy Serkis.

This is encouraging news on its own, but Fox has also released a new plot summary that gives us a clearer idea of what'll go down in this much-anticipated sequel to the prequel or something. Here you go...

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2011, a relaunch of a once-proud franchise that had fallen into disrepair. We'll see if Fox can keep the quality comin' on May 23, 2014.
