Serial killers are the new vampires.
A Manga series that’s already been adapted into a 74-episode animated TV series, Naoki Urasawa’s “Monster” is now being developed by Guillermo Del Toro for HBO.
The books follow a doctor determined to neutralize a serial killer the doctor saved when the killer was a nine-year-old.
The project had been in development at HBO’s sister studio New Line. Del Toro (“Hellboy,” “Pacific Rim”) hopes to direct the pilot from a script by Steven Thompson (“Doctor Who,” “Sherlock”).
FX greenlit in September a pilot based on Del Toro’s “The Strain” vampire novels. Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “Bates Hotel”) will serve as showrunner should “Strain” go to series.
