Nordling here.
I love the idea of a remake of CARRIE, especially from a director like Kimberly Peirce (BOYS DON'T CRY). Brian DePalma's film is undoubtedly a classic and always will be, but I look at remakes these days like song covers - I'm really curious of how different directors approach the material.
If the trailer is any indication, however, it looks like Peirce is making CARRIE into a CGI fest, with all the same horror beats. This is a trailer after all, and it's intended to get butts in seats, but I hope Peirce injects her own viewpoint and ideas into Stephen King's story. BOYS DON'T CRY is a terrific movie and I think horror needs more women filmmakers to get involved. If you've never seen the original or read the book, however, this trailer practically shows the whole movie. But I dig the casting of Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore and hope this becomes something more than the trailer indicates. Here it is, courtesy of Yahoo!:
CARRIE opens this October. Hope it desn't get lost in the Halloween horror movie shuffle.
Nordling, out.
