Martin Scorsese, who may or may not be involved with the development of “Goodfellas: The Series” over at AMC, is looking to bring a “Gangs of New York” series to TV.
As Variety’s Joe Weisman points out, the show will follow organized crime in New York and Chicago, making a de facto prequel to Scorsese’s “Boardwalk Empire.”
“This time and era of America’s history and heritage is rich with characters and stories that we could not fully explore in a two hour film,” says he, Scorsese. “A television series allows us the time and creative freedom to bring this colorful world, and all the implications it had and still does on our society, to life.”
As with the 2002 hit, Scorsese is collaborating with Miramax on the project.
No channel is yet involved.
