Lana and Andy Wachowski, the writing-directing-producing duo behind the “Matrix” trilogy, “Speed Racer” and “Cloud Atlas,” are getting into the hourlong game with “Sense8,” “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.”
They’re reteaming for the series with TV vet J. Michael Straczynski (“The Real Ghostbusters,” “Babylon 5,” “Jeremiah”), who also co-wrote the Wachowskis’ 2009 big-screen effort “Ninja Assassin.”
Netflix, which has ordered 10 episodes of “Sense8,” has been getting into the original series business in a hurry, with David Fincher’s “House of Cards” already available, and new episodes of sitcom “Bad Samaritans” launching March 31.
Eli Roth’s wolfy hourlong “Hemlock Grove” hits Netflix April 19 and new episodes of “Arrested Development” arrive in May.
The new prison sitcom from “Weeds” mastermind Jenji Kohan, “Orange Is The New Black,” is due on Nelflix later this year.
“Sense8” hits Netflix next year.
