I am – Hercules!!

Yes, the great Ang Lee is debasing himself by finally stepping into the realm of television.

The pilot he’s directing is for a proposed FX hourlong titled “Tyrant,” from “Homeland” writer-producers Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon and writer-producer Craig Wright (“Six Feet Under,” “Lost,” “United States Of Tara,” “Underemployed” and the big screen’s upcoming “Mr. Peabody and Sherman”).

The FX press release describes the premise:

Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.

Ang Lee won Oscars for directing “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi.” His other directorial efforts include “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Hulk,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “The Ice Storm,” “Ride With The Devil,” “Eat Drink Man Woman,” “Lust, Caution” and “Taking Woodstock.”

He’s pretty awesome.

No cast has been announced for the pilot, slated to shoot this summer.
