Don't Expect Sam Raimi To Commit To An OZ Sequel... Yet!!

The Kidd here...

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL did big business over the course of its opening weekend, debuting to an $80 million box office, and, as we learned heading into the weekend, Disney was wasting no time getting the ball rolling on a sequel, already having a script for the follow-up in the works. However, that doesn't mean we should expect Sam Raimi back as a certaintiy to direct OZ 2: OZ HARDER... or are we going with OZ: 2 GREAT 2 POWERFUL these days? OZ 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO certainly has a nice ring to it, too. But I digress...

Raimi spoke to Bleeding Cool not too long ago about his possible involvement in a sequel, and it didn't sound like such a film was in the cards for Raimi's future plans as a filmmaker. **SPOILERS AHEAD**

"I haven’t planned on directing the sequel. I did leave some loose ends for another director if they want to make the picture. I tried to make it a complete ending, so that the audience would be fulfilled, but I also let Evanora and Theodora get away."

"I was attracted to this story but I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested."

Of course these statements were made before Disney starting counting those opening receipts, and you have got to believe that Raimi would at least listen to The Mouse if they started backing up the money truck to his house to make the second film... but that doesn't mean he'll sway from his seeming lack of passion for another film in this world.

If not Raimi then, who'd be a good fit for the inevitable OZ sequel?
