CBS has greenlit one pilot starring “Southland” cast member Shawn Hatosy and another pilot starring “Southland” cast member Ben McKenzie.
Both castings are in “second position,” which means if “Southland” is renewed for a sixth season, Hatosy and McKenzie will not be available to star in the CBS projects should either go to series.
But. It kinda smells like the casting community has already gotten word that TNT is unlikely to renew “Southland” for a sixth season, right?
Hatosy will play another cop in CBS’s “Reckless” pilot, which follows two opposing lawyers who get hot for each other while litigating a South Carolina police sex scandal. It was created by “Safe Haven” screenwriter Dana Stevens, the former actress who wrote the movies “Blink,” “City of Angels,” “For Love of the Game” and “Life Or Something Like It” before she created ABC’s “What About Brian?”.
McKenzie will play the lead in the CBS pilot “The Advocates,” about an ex-con who teams with a pretty lawyer to fight for underdogs. It’s from Bruno Heller, who created both HBO’s “Rome” and CBS’ struggling “The Mentalist.”
