Beaks here...
Sarah Polley's STORIES WE TELL is a documentary about untangling the strands of one's family history, and finding that everyone has a different version of the truth - even when it comes to the actual identity of your father. The film has earned rave reviews, and, judging from the below trailer, looks like an intriguing follow-up to Polley's lovely TAKE THIS WALTZ.
Polley is only three features into her directing career, and I can't wait to see how she evolves as a filmmaker. She's an astute observer of people who steadfastly writes away from cliche; there's rarely a moment in her movies that feels forced or conventional. Her craft may not be overwhelming or virtuosic, but it's true. We need more like her.
STORIES WE TELL opens theatrically on May 17th.
