Relativity has signed Mikael Håfström to direct TUNNELS, an adaptation of the first in a series of six books from authors Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams.  Describes a press release on the matter... 

Beneath the streets of London, two teenage boys discover an incredible, hidden underground world where a secret civilization has been desperately waiting for a hero to save them all. The deeper they go, the closer they get to unearthing an evil that could destroy the world above and put an end to the lives they once lived.

Hmmm.  'The deeper they go, the closer they get to unearthing an evil that could destroy the world above and put an end to the lives they once lived.' So, in other words, they find girls? 

Mikael Håfström directed John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson in the rather creepy 1408 back in 2007, and recently shot THE TOMB with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Jim Caviezel, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, and 50 Cent.  

TUNNELS is being produced by brothers Mark and Neil Canton.  Mark brought us 300 and its upcoming sequel, and 2010's wondrous PIRANHA remake and it's unfortunate 2012 sequel.  Neil Canton produced the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy and BUCKAROO BANZAI.  Which, for my money, makes him extremely awesome.
