John Ary here with a look at a few action figure lines making headlines this week. As always click on the photos for an embiggened pic and for more information follow the pre-order links...
Storm Shadow from Hot Toys
His name is Byung-hun Lee and he plays Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe films. Hot Toys just posted new pics of an action figure bearing his likeness, dressed as a white ninja. It features a fabric movie-accurate costume, an alternative masked head, three sets of interchangeable hands, two swords, two sais, three throwing stars, a handgun and display base. The best thing about this action figure?… Pair it with a nice suit and you can turn it into the lead character from I Saw the Devil or add a cowboy outfit and you have the bad guy from The Good, The Bad, The Weird. He will ninja his way onto toy shelves in June or you can pre-order him here.
Movie Masters Faora from Mattel
MTV Geek has been killing recently with their numerous toy exclusives and reveals. Today they broke this pic of Antje Traue as Faora, General Zod’s right hand lady from Man of Steel. She will go on sale in June for $14.99 along with 6-inch versions of Jor-El, Superman and Zod.
Assassin's Creed from McFarlane Toys
Ubisoft and McFarlane Toys will team up to produce new Assassin’s Creed toys and collectibles. Series 1 will include seven action figures, headlined by Connor. He will come in two different versions – one in his Assassin’s Creed III traditional assassin garb and the second, as Ratonhnhaké:ton in the upcoming “Tyranny of King George” storyline. Also expect to see Haytham Kenway in the mix. CEO Todd McFarlane proclaims in the official press release that the new toys “will include codes that unlock unique content in game – things like new weapons, clothing colors, or other customization options. Features like this reward the hardcore fans who buy the figures, and give collectors some added value.” Each 6-inch figure will feature 25 points of articulation at a price point between $14.99 and $16.99. Look for these in October.
Play Arts Kai Dead Space 3 from Square Enix
When you have a Necromorph outbreak, there is only one man to call… space warrior Isaac Clarke. In Dead Space 3, he crash-lands on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis and must battle the elements along with hundreds of creepy monsters. Square Enix will celebrate the new game with a 9.5-inch tall, ultra-poseable action figure, complete with a plasma cutter, pulse rifle, interchangeable hands and a display stand. Look for this sci-fi hero in June or you can pre-order him here.
Mezco Toyz - Toy Fair 2013
Mezco kicked off its New York Toy Fair announcements early this week with a sneak peek at several new action figure lines. First off, we got a closer look at the Walter White/Heisenberg fig from Breaking Bad. Another big announcement revolved around the new Axe Cop line of toys. Mezco also expanded its 14-inch ThunderCats line with Cheetara, who now sports ball jointed hips. The little green guys from Mars Attacks will soon get their own 3.75-inch line of figures along with a 24-inch tall Martian (not pictured). MTV Geek got the exclusive on the new DC Universe Mez-Its including characters from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight. For more pics and announcements, check out the Mezco website. Special thanks to journalist John Charles for the non-MTV pics and info.
