Soule Reports in from the set of HANNIBAL!!!
The Soule-Man is reporting in with the latest in his too tan series of set reports... his last being THE BEACH, this time a far far far far faaaaaar cooler project... HANNIBAL. You know... I'm just dying to see how Ridley is going to handle this material. Does anyone know who the DP is on this one? Here's the scoop...

This is Soule reporting from yet another backpacking
trip - last time from Asia with news on "The Beach",
this time it's from Europe with a bit of info on
"Hannibal". Florence, Italy, to be precise, although
that will come as no surprise to anyone who has read
the book.
Anyway, here's the (small) scoop - Ridley Scott and
company are here filming now. I was able to catch a
glimpse of the production around the Ponte Vecchio,
which is a large, very old bridge across the River
Arno here in Florence. It is a pedestrian-only
walkway, but it's wide, and both sides are bordered by
many, many jewelry shops. Very sparkly. Didn't see
Hopkins, (actually may have, but I couldn't get that
close), but it looked like a large, expensive setup,
which was weird, because Florence is an old town - all
the gear looked out of place.
I am not sure what scene was being shot, but I don't
remember anything around the Ponte Vecchio in the
book, so it looks like Scott is really going to get
the most out of his location - always a good thing.
Tomorrow it's Rome - I'm going to try to see
"Gladiator" again and then walk out of the theater to
see the Coliseum - an experience I expect will be nice
and surreal.

When the inspector is trying to get hannibal's fingerprints via a gypsy pickpocket, and when the gypsy tries to get hannibal to grab his wrist to leave fingerprints on the bracelet, Hannibal does, and when this happens, the gypsy thinks Lechter tries to hit him in the balls, buy the gypsy runs away only to find out Hannibal slipped a blade into his femoral artery, and he bleeds out and dies in an alleyway.
Whoever this SCOOPER is, it's strange for him not to remember this very cool and important advancement in the book... -

i'm living in florence for a year and have also seen the mysterious silver vans. The most interesting thing i've seen is that they were filming in the town hall which is a beautiful grand old building and would provide some excellent photography ops.

I didn't think Zimmer's score for Gladiator was that bad at all! I actually quite enjoyed the music, the end in particular.
I think it annoying that some people even dare to nag about the music that they didn't like too much while the film itself is sooo darned beautiful (yes yes except the Rome cityscapes, but please.. just WATCH IT.) -
fyi-- john mathieson, who also shot "gladiator," is DP'ing for "hannibal".

I think Vangelis would be the perfect artist to score Hannibal.
The mood of the movie would be greatly enhanced by his participation.

Betty Bowers homepage is hysterically funny! You MUST read Betty's movie review on Gladiator (Glad he ate her). I can't hardly wait to read her review on Hannibal when it comes to theaters. Actually I'd love to see her and Hannibal in the ring on Pay-Per View t.v. dukin it out blow by blow. Lets start placin our bets. Any takers?
