Wong Kar-Wai's THE GRANDMASTER, the 4,046th retelling of the Ip Man story, is already out in Asia, and early reviews have been encouraging, with some claiming it's the filmmaker's best since IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. I'm trying to avoid getting overly worked up for this movie, but this is futile. It's a new Wong Kar-Wai movie starring Tony Leung, and it's stuffed with dazzlingly choreographed fight sequences by Yuen Woo-ping. This is one of the must-sees of 2013. But it doesn't have a U.S. release date yet because The Weinstein Company is distributing, and... is therefore doing what The Weinstein Company does.
So this new trailer will have to suffice for now. This movie looks like a goddamn dream.
THE GRANDMASTERS will receive its European premiere next week at the Berlinale Film Festival. I hate everyone who is attending.
