No More Springtime SOUTH PARK!! Output Reduced To 10 Autumn Episodes Yearly!!
Only 10 new episodes of “South Park” will air on Comedy Central this year, all of them in the autumn starting Sept. 25.
The series has produced precisely 14 episodes per year – seven in the first half of the year and seven in the latter half -- since 2004.
That’s the fewest per calendar year since the series’ late-year launch in 1997. (The highest number of new episodes in a single year – 21 – aired on Comedy Central in 1998.)
“Why did we do seven and seven to begin with?” series co-cretor Matt Stone asked the New York Times. “We just sort of made that up. And we are switching to 10 for the same reason. It just sounded like a good number, and we won’t break up the year so we can more easily do other stuff.”
