Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Believe it or not, I'm not totally against the idea of retrofitting older films into 3D for theatrical re-releases. Why not? I've seen some of King Kong ('05) and the original Star Wars films in 3D thanks to James Cameron's test reel he put together and I liked what I saw.
More than anything I like experiencing great audience movies with an audience. There's nothing that can replicate that experience at home. That's why I was campaigning so hard for them to re-release Jaws theatrically when they had that flat out gorgeous 2k DCP restoration last year.
I'm not crazy gaga over Top Gun, but I like it a whole bunch and the trailer below actually got me pumped up to give it a rewatch. It's been easily 10 years since I've seen it. Give the trailer a look:
You're pumped, right? I'm more excited to give the 3D-ified Jurassic Park a view, but dammit, I'll go see Top Gun 3D. You win, Hollywood.
