James Franco To Do AMERICAN TABLOID!!

The Kidd here...

James Franco is taking on the task of adapting James Ellroy's novel American Tabloid. Franco plans to both director and star in the adaptation, as he told MTV News. According to him, "It's not all put together yet. It's still early," but when you've got someone with Franco's talents trying to make Time's Best Book of 1995, that's something worth getting excited about, especially when you consider the interesting subject matter of the novel.

American Tabloid tells the interconnected stories of three law enforcement officers over the span of five years that lead up to their involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. This isn't the first time someone's taken a go at bringing American Tabloid to life though. Bruce Willis once optioned the rights to try to make a miniseries based on the novel, but it never quite came together, much like it didn't when Tom Hanks and Playtone tried their hand at it, unable to get the project off the ground. Here's to hoping James Franco has better luck. It appears his AMERICAN TABLOID is still in the planning stages, but he seems committed to making it actually happen this time.
