More Football & Reruns!! IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE!! MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET!! A CHRISTMAS STORY!! A Whedon Masterpiece!!
Herc's Christmas Eve Talkback!!
Christmas Eve brings HD versions of arguably the three best and funniest Christmas movies ever forged, none of them available via Netflix streaming. 1946’s “It’s A Wonderful Life” hits NBC at 8 p.m.
AMC has 1947’s “Miracle on 34th Street” in HD twice starting at 7 p.m. ET. It stars Natalie Wood and Tarzan’s girlfriend and Ricky Ricardo’s landlord and features a guy named Gailey who lures Santa to his bedroom. Mustaches were huge that year!
And TBS has 1983’s “A Christmas Story” on a 24-hour continuous loop starting 8 p.m. ET Christmas Eve and ending 8 p.m. ET Christmas Day.
If you’re a dirty atheist, tune at 9 p.m. to the godless Science Channel, which is running “Objects In Space,” written and directed by “Avengers” writer-director Joss Whedon. It’s arguably the best “Firefly” episode ever made. It's part of the channel's long Monday "Firefly" marathon, which has already begun.
“1600 Penn” hit a 2.2 following “The Voice”; it will likely not do as well when it begins following “The Office” next month.
Denied “The Voice” as a lead-in last week, Howie Mandel’s “Take It All” took a big dip.

Guess I am a dirty atheist. Will be watching "Firefly." Oh yeah, Maureen O'Sullivan was seriously hot.

Staying up late to watch Alastair Sim's Scrooge (even though I have it on DVD)
by tangcameo
Because of all the Scrooges I've seen in my 39 Christmases (Christmasi?), his was the most ... human.
-
Merry Christmas all.

@tangcameo... I swear I heard a bagpipe underneath your comment, pal!

Merry X-Mas to everybody!
-
Ted Turner has a special ring in hell reserved for him for those crayola-d classics.
-
Most quotable Christmas movie ever. He, darn near most quotable movie ever period. Go A Christmas Story.
-
I'd argue that Christmas Vacation is the most quotable Christmas movie if not the one of the most quotable movies ever. At least it is in my house. Merry Christmas! Shitter was full.
-
I have Firefly marathons all the time.
-
because in my house, if someone asks what Christmas is all about, the response heard is "VENGEANCE!" a la The Grinch. We quote a lot of that movie. After that, probably A Christmas Story.
-
...are Die Hard and Die Hard2
-
I'd throw in Lethal Weapon for good measure.
-
As top xmax movie for years. Soo glad i found someone who agrees The rest 2 Christmas story 3 Christmas vacation 5 its a wonderful life 5 scrooged The best special for tv ? Animated Grinch that stole xmas. I died a little when my nephews liked the Jim Carrey version Charlie brown and Rudolph are close second.
-
Don't forget about Bad Santa... Great Christmas movie too. Die Hard is great too. So is A Christmas Story. There are just too many too name.

To Herc, Judge Briggs, and the rest of the posters here--Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night...
by Marc Cerasini
Ho, ho, ho...
-
Sure, Maureen O'Sullivan was pretty hot in those Tarzan flicks, but if you're talking MIRACLE ON 34th STREET, then it was Maureen O'Hara... who was SMOKIN' hot.
-
C'mon!
-
now stop fucking about on the internet. drink, eat and be merry.
-
as they all bash the beauty of capitalism...they are all utter shite except for christmas story, which embraces capitalism, the second amendment and chinese food
-
Not sure if you are being facetious, but 4:3 (1.37:1) was the 'Academy Ratio' at the time for 35mm.
-
Anyone?

Black has said that he's fascinated by the wonder of Christmas and loves to set films in that timeframe...
by CountryBoy
... so maybe not.
-
Probably my second favorite Xmas movie behind Miracle on 34th. It's got a young Jimmy Stewart, the Lubitsch touch, and an attempted suicide. What's not to love?
-
I am recovering from open-heart surgery that was performed last Thursday. A 3 hour operation turned into a 15 hour ordeal. Internal bleeding, both lungs collapsed...it has been an incredibly difficult experience. Being alive is my Christmas present. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday Season!!
-
O'Hara was the one in Miracle on 34th Street and also in THE QUIET MAN with John Wayne.
-
That'd be Die Hard.
-
Rest and heal yourself... Best to you in 2013.
-
No offence, I love A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation, but personally the most quoteable Christmas movie is Elf, I love that movie. I't hard to pick a favorite though, Its a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, White Christmas, the Animated Grinch, Santa Claus is Coming to Town,Roudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, both 34th streets, Muppets Christmas Carol, etc. Too many to choose from!
-
Hey sorry to hear that you had to go through that, I really hope that you get better.

mrlongbaugh, what you need is a holiday housecall from DR. PHIBES.

And why no love for The Ref? One of the funniest movies, Xmas or otherwise, ever, IMHO. Die Hard is my all-time Xmas fave, followed by Christmas Vacation, The Ref, Scrooged, Lethal Weapon and Die Hard 2. You all be safe these holidays.
-
'Now I have a machine gun HO HO HO' And he didn't even need a stamp!
-
Whose bright idea was it to run commercials about abused puppies in the middle of a comedy show? Talk about buzz kill.
-
Thank you...wishing you the very best in 2013 as well!!
-
Thanks....but I think I will pass, LOL!! That movie always freaked me out.
-
Thanks Amigo!! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Take care friend.

Can't go wrong with It's A Wonderful Life & A Christmas Story!
by Wcwlkr
Thank God Hollywood hasn't tried to remake It's A Wonderful Life! That movie is a classic that needs to be completely untouched.
-
An underrated Christmas classic. Quoted almost as much as Christmas Vacation, but by fewer family members. Do you have Christmas in France? Chrrrissss-masssss.
-
Ho. Ho. Ho. Die Hard is definitely my favorite Christmas film. I'd follow that with A Christmas Story, Christmas Vaccation, It's A Wonderful Life and the original Miracle on 34th Street.
-
he's hiding. oh how I love watching the Ref at Christmas. What a gem of a holiday movie. Cheers!
-
Or did I read that wrong?
-
'Nuff said.
