HERCULES ON THE RADIO!!
Learn What Ain’t It Cool’s TV Critic Thinks About THIS IS 40, JACK REACHER, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, Another Movie and More!! Listen And Call In LIVE Saturday 10pm PT / 1am ET!!
Tonight the KERN Krew and I discuss what I learned from Judd Apatow’s “This Is 40,” Christopher McQuarrie’s “Jack Reacher” and David O. Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Perhaps we’ll get into why Graham Parker’s “Get Started, Start A Fire” wasn’t used in “This Is 40.”
And perhaps I’ll even sneak out for a glimpse of “Killing Them Softly” before showtime. Who’s to say?
“Ask Mr. KERN” airs Saturday night 10:05 p.m. till midnight PT.
No matter where you are you can listen to the show LIVE by hitting the “Listen Live” button at kernradio.com.
Best of all, you, constant reader, can join this very nerdy conversation.
The toll-free call-in line is:
1-800-640-5376
Call in drunk, as I always do, but watch your language. This is not a podcast. This monster goes out over the air on all 50,000 watts of Southern California’s KERN-AM.
Have something better to do tonight? Want to listen to older shows? Head over to the “Ask Mr. KERN” archives!

Fuck yeah! My sister didn't know there was more than one movie. Her reaction at the end of the Hobbit? Priceless...

I didn't get to see The Hobbit last week after Saturday's debacle.

I assume you enjoyed it Puttgrass? Hopefully I can catch it soon.

So that we could all be together, my family had Christmas last Saturday on the 15th. After I got off work Friday night I wrapped gifts til around 6 am Saturday. Then I drove me and my Mom up to my Sister's house. A 2 hour drive. Felt longer. My Sister made a traditional Christmas dinner. Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, etc. Later we exchanged gifts. It was all very cozy and warm. But I was running on the fumes of the fumes of the last drop in my tank... I was there at 12 midnight CST, but at 1 am my engine gave one last sputter and stalled. I hope to be there tonight. There's just this little matter of my $1200 water bill for last month and the required repairs to fix that nasty little problem... At least I haven't been up for 48 hours. Merry Christmas everybody! Or. Happy Holidays! Whichever you like.
-
I hope Santa brings you some CA$H. $1200?? Wha happened?

My front yard goes about 50/60 ft to the bayou (Bayou Blue) that runs parallel to Bayou Blue Rd which is another 15 ft passed the other side of the bayou. The bayou is the parish line. So my mail boxes by the road are in another parish. Anyway, 20 ft from my house the yard starts sloping down to the bayou. The water meter is 15 ft down the slope to the bayou. The water connects to the end of my house that is opposite to my carport. So when I get home at night, I cross the culvert and park and go inside. I haven't had a reason to be in my front yard for a long time. The grass stopped growing some time ago with the cold weather and all. Apparently, the pipe has broken near where the slope begins. The water flows back along the pipe and then to the bayou. When? I don't know. According to the bill about 317,000 gallons of water has gone into the bayou. $1200. Cha-Ching! I have dig up the broke part and fix it. Yay.

Yay!

Only 3 places show it in 48 FPS in Louisiana. Being at my Sister's I had to go the one in Baton Rouge. The Cinemark Perkins Rowe and XD. XD because they have their own version of IMAX at Cinemark. Since it ain't IMAX, no 9 minutes of Star Trek: Into Darkness. Just the full trailer. Waaaahh! I have never been to a Cinemark theater before. I thought it was very nice. The XD screen IS the wall you're facing in the theater. It goes to all 4 corners. Very nice, indeed. I thought the Hobbit was very good. I enjoyed it. The 48 FPS 3D in XD was amazing to look at. I never had any problems with it at all. Some have compared the characters movements to old silent films. Like they were sped up. I saw none of that. Everything was highly detailed and had a very fluid quality to its movement. Things just seemed to POP from the screen. It had a realness like comparing an old B&W movie to a live TV broadcast. I hope this 48 FPS thing catches on because I like it! And the movie was good too! How about that, Non-Believers?! Pete did a good job! This is a somewhat lighter tale than LOTR, but then The Hobbit is a somewhat lighter book. Go see it. I can't wait for the next one! And neither can my Sister! *snicker-snicker*

Listening to last weeks show.

But I saw a gravestone today that had the name "Jennifer Lawrence" on it. It really put things* in perspective. *nothing

No not the show, but my personal failure with The Hobbit. My post last week entitled FUCK explains it all. No big deal, just my luck.
-
I believe that Liam Neeson has killed no less than 15 people tonight in his quest to find and free gotilk from his captors!
-
So, not. Jon Hamm, hot. Sorry, on East Coast for holidays, and down with a nasty cold. Just took meds, so I'll be out. Plus, my mother has her monstrous Christmas open house tomorrow night (tons of trees, decor, etc. with which I have assisted this week). So, I am about Christmas-ed out, so to speak.

The behind the scene clips about the remastering done for Love were fascinating to me. There are some transitions on the soundtrack that I don't like, but overall I found both the show and the soundtrack to be very enjoyable.

"Klling Them Softly" was by no means horrible but left me walking out of the cinema with a "so what?" thought-bubble floating above my head. Not recommended. "Silver Linings Playbook" was a solid romantic comedy about a pair with mood disorders. I loved Jennifer Lawrence, who was so sexy and funny she made me want to see "Hunger Games" when it hits pay cable in a few days. I hereby recommend. Thanks to all who listened, posted and/or called this week; see you next Saturday!

for some reason, christians cant think logically during this season jews only came to jerusalem twice during the year...fall and spring...during major holidays had jesus been born in a manger during the winter..son of god or not, he wouldve died of hypothermia....yes...it gets frickin cold in bethlehem in december...ive been there dec 25th was chosen because christianity was taken over by the romans and they liked the winter solstice holiday as for anthologies...lets face it, tv writers today are just not as creative as those from the 50s and 60s and really have nothing to say has nothing to do with sci fi...and everything to do with the fact that serling used sci fi to get around the censors, who were too fucking stupid to realize that he was using sci fi to make social commentary...which was verboten at the time
-
Kidding aside. I've got his email if you want to go that route. Let me know at myoldscreennameatgmail Merry Christmas!

And I can think quite logically during this time.

I like the Tin Man. (name the above quote, bitches) I get your deep cuts point Mike, but *hate*?! C'mon.

Zorak and I are very saddened by the news. The Klugman has passed from this world at the age of 90. http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=781905

Saw it way, way too much growing up. There were only so many movies that our school allowed to students to view, and we had so many delayed starts to our days because of inclement weather that we watched it way too many times. It's a great movie, I loved it as a kid, but I cannot stand to watch it now because of the sense memories associated with it.
-
"Sense memories"????? God.

Santa just finished wrapping presents, stuffed his last stocking, ate his cookies and is now off to bed. Hopefully my two little ones will sleep a little longer than usual. That'd be a gift. Goodnight friends, have a safe and joyous holiday. Peace. Deceased...

Except for you, Movieman, you wretched piece of shit. Here, I'll dumb it down for you even more: "I don't like that movie because I done saw it too many times and it brings back sad pictures in my head." Even that, though, isn't dumbed down enough for you, seeing as how in past talkbacks your stream-of-conscious nonsense can't be applied to any kind of continuity from post to post. Sorry, wait, I mean: "You say things that don't make sense, then get offended over something like song identification." No wait, that was probably too hoighty toighty too I meant "Different strokes for different folks." No, I got it: "Guy one like one thing, other guy like other thing; neither guy wrong, all things okay."
-
I went in only with fans of the book raving about them and it worried me that it wouldn't live up to their hype. I don't know if I want to start reading the books, but I'm definitely down for more movies like this. I'm curious to see how McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible involvement plays out. I hope it doesn't fizzle out like the Fincher/Carnahan projects.

Don't think i've ever heard them mention the show and now that Gaimen is writing them, C'MON!

Are you people fighting over the Wizard of Oz? Really?
by L.H.Puttgrass
Okay. I think the Wicked Witch of the West sews socks that smell! Ha! So there! I think that the Wizard of Oz is a classic that was made in a different place and time that can never be recreated and probably shouldn't! *cough! Raimi. cough! cough!!* So there! Again!! Ha! Ha! Haha! HA!
-
It's hard to avoid 'round here as my bro's a MEGA Judy Garland fan (tho I think he prefers Meet Me In St. Louis) I still enjoy watching it from time to time with the munchkins. But hey, Mikey don't like it. So what! As far as Raimi's Oz...hmmm. I'll check it out. And we can argue about it right here in the best goddamn talkback there is.
