Learn Which X-FILES Vet Will Be Psychoanalyzing HANNIBAL!!

Gillian Anderson, whose “X-Files” doctor character spent lots of time hanging around with FBI agents, will play Hannibal Lecter’s psychoanalyst in NBC’s Hannibal, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Her character will appear in more than one episode. I’m guessing Lecter eats her at some point.
The same EW piece says others appearing in the series include Eddie Izzard (“Mockingbird Lane”), Ellen Greene (“Pushing Daisies”), Gina Torres (“Firefly”), Molly Shannon (“Saturday Night Live”), and Chelan Simmons (“Kyle XY,” “The L.A. Complex”).
The series, masterminded by Bryan Fuller (creator of “Dead Like Me,” “Wonderfalls” and “Pushing Daisies”) stars Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale”) as Lecter, Hugh Dancy (“Our Idiot Brother”) as FBI profiler Will Graham, Laurence Fishburne (“CSI”) as FBI profiling division head Jack Crawford, Caroline Dhavernas “Wonderfalls”) as psychiatrist and FBI consultant Alana Bloom, and Lara Jean Chorostecki (“Camelot,” “Copper”) as tabloid blogger Freddie Lounds.
NBC has not yet announced when “Hannibal” will begin airing, but I’m guessing March.
Find all of EW’s story on the matter here.

They still haven't even begun shooting yet (I'm guessing anyway, if she's only just been cast) and it'll be premiering in March?? that's awfully tight

Jerked it to that picture more than once back in the day...

was she burnt out?...I know she had a few kids, got married? did some British shows but I always wondered why she took such a long hiatus when X-Files ended...she was at her peak in poularity then...or maybe she doesn't like the spotlight

Anderson moved back to the UK to do theatre and tv, in order to break away from the Scully typecasting in the US...
by Stegman84
...as variations on Scully was apparently pretty much all she was being offered in the states. Plus which, she spent much of her childhood in the UK, and lived there part time, between seasons, when she was doing X-Files. Both career wise and personally, I guess she was just more comfortable there.

They say gentlemen prefer blondes, so I suppose I'm no gentleman, because I find redheads to be way hotter/more fun.
-
where she went for a shit in period costume and it, er, got lost along the way. The audience didn't know what to do.
-
Fuck off.
-
She was Miss Haversham last Christmas in a big BBC adaptation of Great Expectations with Ray Winstone as Magwich. She's always cropping up in something over here.

she didn't want to be typecast as Scully yet makes her US return as another doctor in an FBI series?

I find that cool and comforting. Don't know why.

whose “X-Files” doctor character spent lots of time hanging around with FBI agents
by TheBaxter
ummm, her character WAS an FBI agent. i guess it's not technically incorrect, since she was a doctor too, and she did "hang around" with other FBI agents, which is probably pretty common for most FBI agents. but it kind of sounds like you didn't know that.
-
any show that has a character described as a "tabloid blogger" is pretty much doomed to failure.
-
damn, I want to watch this show, given the pedigree and the cast. I'm really curious what Brian Fuller will do with this. I would have preferred Mockingbird Lane be taken to series, but any show that casts Gillian Anderson deserves a chance, in my book.
-
She was all "don't, it might get on the internet", and I was all "shut up and talk like Clarice." True story.
-
She was quite sexy, and still is. Dated a gal who resembled Gillian when the X-Files was on. Good times. Got a serious weakness for reds!

I mean, it should be TERRIBLE. Like, presumably this is going to turn Lecter into a Dexter-style character (which the film series began dragging him towards), and if you look up the poster advertising the show, it looks TERRIBLE. Seriously. Just look it up. It's the guy playing Graham's head copied and pasted on to some guy looking over a body It's the most poorly photoshop piece of garbage you'll see all day. BUT!! I'm actually...kinda...sorta...looking forward to it. I mean I love Red Dragon (the book) and know this going to mess with that mythology, but I'm prepared to see where they're going. Lecter is well on the way to becoming a proper iconic literary and movie monster, like Dracula, Frankenstein etc. and they get re-jigged all the time, so why not? The originals are still going to be there. Go for it. And I like the cast. Particularly Dhavernas. LOVED her on Wonderfalls and find it baffling that she isn't a bigger star already. Mikkelson as Lector seems a solid choice, though he might be almost TOO creepy looking (Although Hopkins was the very definition of subtlety, wasn't he?) And I like Fuller's stuff, as short lived as it usually is. But yeah. Against my better judgment...bring it on

Reds are grrrreeeaaat in the sack. out of the sack...not so much fun to be around. quite self centered come to think of it. (My ex was a ginger (whinger) ).

In this time of re-do's, reboots, reimaginings, re-whatever, WHY ISN'T THIS HAPPENING????????
-
But FOX had it in her contract she couldn't play another FBI agent. She's an amazing actress, though. House of Mirth should've gotten her an Oscar nomination tbh. She was raised in the UK and has reverted to her British accent since living back there the past decade, I wonder if shell put on her American accent for Hannibal.

Always liked her and Duchovny more than the actual show
by BackwardGalaxy
They were a great duo, really played off each other nicely. They carried an otherwise average, but ahead of its time, show.

Wasn't Scully kind of the TV version of Jodi Foster in Silence anyway?

lose their souls, yet laugh at us all the way to the bank when series gets picked up. I hope Mads Mikkelsen isn't wasted as a talent. (watch him in A Royal Affair)

Fox. Chris Carter or Frank Spotnitz said that since a 3rd theatrical film is now shitcanned, they are working on rebooting X-Files.
-

If Fox wants a new X-Files tv show, they better keep Carter and Spotnitz far away.
by hank henshaw
All I can find on the subject is Spotnitz saying that he believes The X-Files made a lot of money over the years for 20th Century Fox, and that sooner or later there will be a remake, either on tv or as a movie. This, when admitting there was no moving forward with a 3rd film (in no small part thanks to the very terrible 2nd film he co-wrote!). Personally, I'd like a Next Generation type of show set in the same world, with FBI agents having to learn, along with the audience, what happened off-camera in the 10 years since the original show went off the air. Then again, none of the X-Files-inspired shows of the past decade have been major ratings success stories (not including Lost).

if they reboot the X files, just wait until Breaking Bad is done and get the best X Files writer on it - Vince Gilligan
by theGoldbergV
Paper Hearts, Pusher, Small Potatoes, Drive, Tithonus, Bad Blood, these are great X files episodes, all written by Gilligan. Carter and Spotnitz had good ideas but the mythology they created was a mess. A reboot would be a great idea. I'd watch it. Then again I've got I Want To Believe on bluray so what the fuck do I know
-
dating I heard.

Best ever English accent I EVER heard an American do. She is awesome.

I'd be constantly hard in her presence. She'd be making squishing sounds when she walked because I'd always be fucking her. Yeah, I'm cool.

Always wished that Anderson and Duchovny could have made a guest appearance on Fringe
by Nasty In The Pasty
They actually mentioned the "previous X-division" (or something) on the show, so I guess it technically takes place in the same continuity. How cool would it have been to see Peter and Olivia sharing a case with Mulder and Scully?
