Learn Where You Can See That Nine Minutes Of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Footage That'll Play In Front Of THE HOBBIT Next Week!!
A few days ago we ran down the STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS trailer releases which will be coming our way in the next week or so.
The film's official site now has a list of theaters where you'll be able to view the whopping 9 minutes of footage (the opening of the film) that'll play in front of some IMAX screenings of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. You can find said list HERE!
I suppose I should bring a change of underwear...or not wear any underwear at all. Wait...that wouldn't work...
In addition to the trailers listed HERE, INTO DARKNESS' official site also indicates that an exclusive teaser will premiere on their site December 17.

They should just release the film in 30 to 60 minute chunks on TV
by Margot Tenenbaum
They could save money by spreading their costs out over a few months...make it like the old movie serials. Weekly installments or something.

I'd like to see the 9 minutes but I don't want to suffer through 48FPS of The Hobbit to do so :-(
by Wcwlkr
I mean don't get me wrong I'm going to see the The Hobbit but just at good ol 2D 24FPS. I'm hearing too many nightmare stories of the 48FPS besides I'm not a fan of the constant use of 3D anyway I'm good on the old fashioned way. But I really want to see this 9 minute opening.
-
are these 48 fps exclusive. If so, won't be seeing the 9 min. Would like to, but will be watching The Hobbit in good old 24 fps.
-
I work in Kansas City. The newest location of the Alamo Drafthouse opened in November, three blocks from my office. My thought right along was that I wanted my first movie there to be The Hobbit, but now I see that the location won't be showing the ST preview. Pretty disappointing stuff; I'll be seeing the movie and the trailer elsewhere now. And at some point, I'll visit the Drafthouse. But it all looked as if it would come together so nicely....
-
Okay, I did too. But only to mock.

DAMNIT, They are showing it at my damn theater. Why ruin the damn movie for me??
by Dreamwriter
I already hate the spoilery trailers we get these days, I *definitely* don't want to see an entire 9 minutes if a movie I'm already going to see.

Welcome everyone. I am your dam guide, Arnie. Now I'm about to take you through a fully funtional power plant, so please, no one wander off the dam tour and please take all the dam pictures you want. Now are there any dam questions?

well, i'll be seeing it in 48fps; how often do you get to see something new? and
by Simpsonian
there have been many reports that it looks fantastic. I'm sure some of it will work and some won't but I'm damn curious to see the potential and pitfalls and make up my own mind about it.
-
because that's essentially what these studios with these long previews. I'm no marketing expert but sometimes less is more when it comes to selling a movie.
-
There's a perfectly fine IMAX theatre here in central London that I'm sure would just love to show it. I'm just sayin'...
-
from the initial teaser trailer ....i saw nothing that remotely suggests exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations nor boldly going where no man has gone before. >>> possibly they do that within the first nine minutes.
-
I've seen it both ways now and 48 fps looks sped up and very distracting (it ruined the film for my friend). Also it does make some of the big vistas or castle/cities look like tiny models (even though they're probably mostly CG). Gollum looks great in both though.

@treatment: Perhaps the 'new civilization' is the Federation, Vulcan survivors, and shattered Klingon fleet form a new civilization.
by kindofabigdeal
And we have a 100 year history of life forms that 'we' have already met, but will seem new to the crew in this universe. (think Q)

My friends used to hate me for insisting on sticking through the end credits..
by Lao_Che_Air_Freight
The P & M taught me that and it just stuck(Dad's a labor guy, he did it out of respect for the behind the scenes folks, and Mom out of respect for the art). When the Pirates and Marvel movies made post credit scenes standard, that was just icing on the cake.

So, for Seattle, they have 8 fake IMAX screens listed but not the two largest screens in the city? The 60ft true IMAX screen at the Pacific Science Center should DEFINITELY have this. I would also think they would want it at the 70ft Cinerama screen that's showing The Hobbit in HFR. These are the two Seattle venues where the true fanboys turn out for every major event film in Seattle. Whoever picked the screens listed on that site is a little out of touch with their core fanbase.
-
Just the fake ones. Way to disappoint.
-
To all those talking about this not showing them exploring strange new worlds and seeking new civilizations and such, name the last Trek film where they actually did any of that. Star Trek:The Motion Picture is the ONLY Trek feature with anything approaching a high concept sci-fi theme. All the rest were essentially shoot-em-ups except for Voyage Home, which was practically a comedy, Undiscovered Country, which was a a slight allegory of US-Soviet relations, and Final Frontier, which was about nothing really. Star Trek hasn't featured exploration and pushing the bounds of man's knowledge since, I don't know when.
-
and then the rest of the movie becomes Star Trek: DSV Into Dark Knight of Khan. Khhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
So, no early 9 min showing for me!!

My theory: the villain is Cupcake's older brother. And he's pissed. For what Kirk did. Payback's a female dog.

Umm...they do explore strange new worlds in the trailer...

The lava planet and the one with the red plants that Kirk and Bones are on, durrrrrrrrrr. These anti-Abrams shibboleths are so damn annoying.

My theory? They are all Cowboy Bebop Fans and this movie will rip off Bebop.
by victor82
I've believed this since watching the trailer and reading people go on about Gary Mitchell and "Section31", the Federation's 23rd Century Answer to the CIA/MI6. Cumberbatch may play Mitchell, or Joachim the Augment, but I suspect he is actually playing the Vincent character from "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", only under a different name. You should also reference Mad Pierrot from Session 20 "Pierrot Le Fou". Both characters were augmented agents who were abused by the Special Services who then had to be dispatched at some point by Spike Spiegel. Pine plays Kirk playing Spike Spiegel, if my guess is correct. Only he doesn't die at the end of the series. Pine's agent is not as stupid as Bill Shatner's.

I CAN see it at my local theater/IMAX, which has a vast majority of all the film 'events'...
by Jaka
....but I don't want to. In fact, I'm a little bothered about it. I may even go so far as to get there early to get the seats I want, leave my friends in them and go hang in lobby for a bit. I just have no desire to see it.
-
There are HFR IMAX 3D showings
-
nothing beats that giant screen, I saw the Avatar and TRON teaser previews at the local Faux liemax and was shocked how tiny those were, smaller than a mall theater. Have not seen a full feature at those, why bother with the real deal nearby. I'm guessing it will be shown at 24 frames as they still use film prints at the big IMAX.
-

The script was written by Alex Kurtzman & Robert Orci & Damon Lindelof.
by kabong
Thanks for the warning.
-
All the fake Imax screens but not the actual IMAX theatre. Sucks.
-
So will the 9 minutes preview Continue throughout the showings? Until the Hobbit leaves the Theaters or is it only for a week or so run??
