New DJANGO UNCHAINED Trailer Brings The Action!
Nordling here.
Counting the days until I see this one. I think we all are. I really hope that Quentin Tarantino does this until he's good and old and doesn't retire early like he's saying he's going to do. He wants to leave behind a great catalog of movies, but at this point I'd say that even movies that aren't as successful as others will always be interesting if he's behind the camera. This new trailer, courtesy of Yahoo, accentuates the action, and hopefully I see this next week if the stars fall right. Here you go:
DJANGO UNCHAINED opens Christmas, a big present under the tree for us movie geeks.

i'm betting everything on sebulba!

I can't wait. Looks to be as great as Inglourious Basterds!
-
QT does no wrong in my eyes...yeah that includes Death Proof!
-
I'm betting everything on TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION.
-
What about Four Rooms? I kid...I kid. Seriously, though, I'm not enough of a die-hard to say he's never had missteps, but I think that even some of his less popular movies are often underrated (Jackie Brown, in particular, is a favorite that never seems to get much love from most fans). And, let's face it: when QT is on, dude is ON. Here's hoping that Inglorious Basterds was just a warm-up for the ass-kicking Django unleashes. Fingers crossed.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Sally Menke's death last year. For me, that was like Scorsese without Thelma Schoonmaker. (Though, I am terribly excited to see how Tarantino has pieced his new picture together, longtime muse and collaborator or n

Okay... maybe it's not a gem and it's better left forgotten but I love that darn movie!
-
Man, I hope this is as good as it looks.
-
it's a little difficult to narrow down what it's about. I'm sure it'll have the usual QT fun and surprises though and my butt will be in the seat for sure. Saw a little snow in there...lookin a little 'Great Silence', nice.

This looks worryingly self-indulgent. Waltz is just reprising his BASTERDS role. DiCaprio should be interesting, but Jamie Foxx probably won't be.

I would have been so bloody intrigued if Will Smith had taken the part. If only.

The others seemed to be trying WAY too hard.

I can't wait...

...but I'm sure Foxx will do just fine. Incredibly excited for this movie.

Enough With the Trailers - I Was Already Sold - Dont Spoil More of the Movie
by ass clown
One trailer was fine with me and two was more than enough. This is the third or fourth trailer for this movie and its starting to feel like Ive seen most of the good scenes before the movie. I wish they would just stop releasing these things because I have no willpower not to watch them.

I do like Mr T but seriously every movie, when broken down, is just a bunch of guys talking shit in a room. This one feels a little more airy though. It has my attention.

And he is waaay beyond stoked at the way this is coming together. He's supposed to see it this week, and can't wait to pick his brain about what he saw.
-
Yeah I was thinking last night if that episode is what inspired QT to do this. I know it inspired me to come up with my own idea. And now QT has beaten me to it.
-
Yes, because in Basterds he was a benevolent aging Old West bounty hunter.

I already love Westerns but seeing this has me fired up. And Dicaprio looks like he's going to kill it.

Replace poor, oppressed Jews with poor oppressed Blacks, add some shitty, irrelevant dialogue and murder a ton of white people.

Is this going to be Tarantino's first PG-13 movie? The trailers in the UK say the film is rated 12, which is the rough PG-13 equivalent, but I'm having a hard time believing that.

That's why he hasn't made a good movie in like 15 years. Loved the original Django theme at the end. I wonder how much of the lyrics would actually apply to this movie.... (off to Youtube)

Tarantino didn't approach him until after he was already signed/about to go into production for MIB3.
-
This is a myth. Tarantino said himself in an interview that the movie's violent or "controversial" subject matter had nothing to do with his decision. Typical Aintitcool morons. Pay attention.
-
There's no way they would avoid Wild Wild West comparisons. Plus, Smith lacks the gritty realness the role required.
-
Is that, yep, he was protecting his brand. Django has sexuality--and no black actor can have sex in a film without it hurting the box office (nothing gets over 100 million domestic). The fact that Django is killing slavers is translated by the insecure into "killing white people", and Smith is a fucking corporation, very very careful of his brand. Also, Tarantino chiefly is known for discovering actors or "resurrecting" careers, not working with major stars. Brad Pitt was certainly a fascinating exception to this rule, but Smith may have wished to avoid this. He probably feels he has just a few more years to rule the top of the box-office. After that time, he may begin to take some risks.

the van is an epic. A simpler time when all you needed to say to a chick was- hey ya wanna smoke a joint in the back of my van? To which they would reply..

Calling Barak Obama our "Lord and Savior" during the BET awards was one of the dumbest things I've ver heard a celebrity say in public (not to mention offensive and blasphemous if you happen to be a Christian) but I love Tarantino and this movie looks great.

by Quake II
Shut up and do what you do best....ACT! I always found it amusing how Jamie Foxx stayed in his Ray Charles character for about 5 years AFTER the movie Ray stopped filming. Identity crisis or what? I swear half the actors in Hollywood would be considered mentally ill if they weren't famous.
-
its a shame neither of the two did it. costner i think was busy and had an excuse with hatfields and supes, but kurt turning it down is a headscratcher especially after the expendables offer. those two movies would have given russel a great comeback

Thank you Dennis Hopper :-) Okay, look it, I was ALL SET to go to a screening of this on Sunday, race home, and be the first to submit a review. I could fucking taste it. But pretty boy Quentin is still editing the fucking thing, so Tony has to wait. Well, once more ... Fuck you, QT! That said, here is the start of the review that I wrote in anticipation, I gotta do something with the damned thing: I live my life by three rules: it is better to ask for pardon than permission, when drawing to an inside straight expect to bluff, and keep fresh batteries in the vibrator (I am no longer in my 20's and it comes in handy.) I have no idea if I am permitted to talk about the recent sceeening of Django Unchained in L.A., so I will do as I please and write what I think. This is my first review on this site, or anywhere for that matter, and I am on a power trip. First I am going to pause and jack off a moment on Jackie Brown, the one QT flick I have never seen all the way through because I just don't get it. The film bores me and I don't know why. I never was into Pam Grier, on screen in public or with lube in private, so maybe that's part of the reason. Pulp Fiction was my gateway drug into Tarantino. Even though I have the DVD, Youube has the last scene (and other choice bits) and when the mood strikes me, I settle in for 10 minutes of bliss. I'm tryin' Quentin, I'm trying real hard .... I have a friend who gets into screenings in the Director's Guild theater in Los Angeles, maybe it's her SAG card, maybe she blew a guy, I couldn't care less. All I care about is one hour ago I finished watching Django Unchained. This review can be summarized in 2 words: That's as far as I got, so here are 2 other words: Peace, Out

I'VE GOT THE POWER!!!!!!!!!

It feels disjointed to me- I don't get a read off of Jamie Foxxxxxxxxxxxx that he's suffered and wants revenge. The gunplay is too stylized (I know! Let's have him kill a man and then have something snappy to say!) and at least the trailer's use of music felt like oil and water. I have not seen the original and I don't know if this is a fresh take, a re-imagining, or a bastardization. But the trailers make me think of the time I watched a production of Romeo and Juliet set in 1950's New York. Doesn't fucking work. It just tries to hard and you wind up feeling sorry for it.
-
I'm a little wary. I am getting douche chills from things like the whipping scene. I hope this is an entertaining and fair movie but I hope it's not yet another Hollywood liberal white guilt film where white people are portrayed as evil and get their come upins for 2 hours straight. That era wasn't so simple like that and I'm sick of seeing this bleed into all films and TV shows. I could be worried about nothing though.
-
I was looking forward to this until i saw Hill in a trailer

Righteous Brother - Hyperdine Systems is right - Smith is protecting his billion $ worldwide grossing brand
by MARCEL_THE_NEGRO_PROJECTIONIST
That's why he turned it down. Last time he did something edgy that wasnt in line with his brand was Seven Pounds, and that bombed- relatively. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm seeing it next week and cannot wait!! I may even have to change my name to Steven_the_negro_butler after I see it!

Samdroid: Tarantino actually DID audition M.K. Williams, as well as other actors including Idris Elba (can we get some Wire love here?) In the end, though, he chose Foxx because of his natural fit for the role being brought up a Texan and whatnot Goldentribe: Uh...that loaf guy isn't an idiot. Waltz's character in IG and this are completely different. Don't think you'll really get many folks to agree with your aggressively charged statements if they do not contain facts.

So will Foxx stay in his Django character for the next 5 years?
by Quake II
Get Jamie Foxx some meds ASAP, the dude acts like the characters he plays for years afterwards and seems to have a personality disorder. I also love how he mumbles through interviews and acts like he's on some deeper level the rest of us wouldn't understand. Look up pretentious douche in the dictionary and you'll see a pic of Jamie Foxx dressed like Ray Charles (taken last week).

His schtick has gotten kind of old. I am sure that this will be no different, but hopefully I am wrong. Plus, I still believe to this day that he called it Inglorious "Basterds" that because he didn't know it was spelled with an A. I think what happened was, he passed the script around, and everyone thought it was a cool and edgy way to spell "bastards", even if they didn't know why he did it. Then, somewhere along the way, maybe at a press junket or something, he was asked about the misspelling. And THAT was the first time he was told or was even aware that he spelled it wrong. Of course by that point, he passed it off as being cool and edgy. That's my belief, anyway.
-
this week. .says its amazing, and can't wait to see it again.
-
This one said the first hour is fantastic, then it gets bogged down in a dinner scene, and after that it's a mess--but a mess that Tarantino fans will love. Also, we agreed on the real reason Will Smith didn't do it--the original script had huge amounts of degrading sex in it, and Jada freaked out.
