John Ary here with a look back at the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  
Love them or hate them, Zordon's crew of superpowered teenage heroes ushered many kids of the 90's into the realm of science fiction and fantasy storytelling.  Even though the American version of the show pandered to the lowest common denominator of its adolescent audience at times, the memorable kaiju beasts and production design gave it a distinct tone that you couldn't find anywhere else on television.  We have the Toei Company of Japan to thank for this.  They licensed footage from the show Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger to American producers who then wrote their own storylines around the action scenes.  
With the release of Shout Factory's new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers box set featuring the first three seasons of the show on DVD, I decided to go back and re-watch some of the more memorable episodes and see how they stacked up against their Japanese counterparts...
