DJANGO starring Franco Nero by the great Sergio Corbucci has a rerelease trailer!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... one of the things I love about the world of cinema these days is the opportunity to recognize that which has come before. Quentin Tarantino loves cinema passionately. Throughout his career he has not only made films that referenced the existence of a larger cinematic universe, but he's crafted that pre-existing cinematic universe into his own. To me, that's cool. But it seems that his titling of his latest film DJANGO UNCHAINED... and his casting of Franco Nero in that film, has given RIALTO PICTURES the confidence to rerelease DJANGO.
Sergio Corbucci, the director of this magnificent Spaghetti Western about a man with a mysterious coffin he drags. This film influenced Robert Rodriguez on his creation of EL MARIACHI - subbing a guitar case in place of the coffin. Corbucci was a bloody great director. His film THE GREAT SILENCE is still amongst my all time favorite Westerns. Just wonderful.
The opportunity to see a film like DJANGO in theaters again is just an opportunity that you should not miss a chance to enjoy! This is absolutely cool. Below the trailer you can see when and where you could see this wonderful rerelease!
Here's the re-release schedule as it exists right now:

perfect before seeing Unchained at Christmas...
-
it warms my heart that I stopped at least one person from doing that stupid "First!" comment...
-
just the kind of Western we need to see right now! Not like something AMC shows on Saturday mornings....
-
Like many of their releases, they stripped the release of all grain and then added fake grain on top. Insane, but true. Numerous other films have suffered the same fate. I just wonder what will actually presented in theaters. If it is that same "Digital Restoration", we're fucked. Hope not.

Albeit a pretty good one.

Australian cinema seems to pumping out a sort of Western that could be seen as the torch bearer of the Spaghetti Westerns.

Was luckey enough to see a Rialto re-release of Melville's "Le Cercle Rouge" when I was in college in Atlanta. They were also responsible for finally bringing "Army of Shadows" to the States.

Tarantino doesn't have a single original molecule in his body...
by Mikey Wood
...that being said: This movie is AWESOME. Son't be fooled by the twenty-plus supposed sequels. The only true sequel was DJANGO 2 (or DJANGO STRIKES AGAIN) in '87 and it's equally awesome.

He doesn't exactly regurgitate the same exact thing that came from the past, now does he? He praises that which is praise-worthy, and then gives us something unexpected and fun out of his reimaginings.

What are they projecting?

I mean, is Harry trying to say all of QT's movies live in their own universe?
by D.Vader
Or is he trying to say all of QT's movies are just REFERENCES to other existing movies? If the former is the case, then what the hell does that have to do with DJANGO? And if the latter is the case, then what the hell does it mean to "craft that pre-existing cinematic universe into his own"? Jeebus, does Harry talk like this in person? Damnit man, DO BETTER!
-
Hahaha fuck you guys. Tarantino gets a lifetime pass on the strength of PULP FICTION alone, possibly the greatest movie of the decade. Does he steal? Yeah, sure, I guess you could call it stealing, but by that logic Jimmy Page is a hack for stealing so many classic blues riffs when he was writing Led Zeppelin songs.

The Enzian is an awesome place. They have all kinds of showings. Couple years ago they had Stand and Deliver with Edward James Olmos in attendance for a Q+A in conjunction with the Florida Film Festival.

I remember seeing Sunset Blvd and Rear Window there. It, Videodrome, the Masquerade and a few other places got me through my years at Georgia Tech.

Trailer takes the suspense out of at least three standoffs. And Django's voiceover starts off sounding like Bruce Campbell, then goes to Ernest Borgnine
by kevred
As time goes on, it gets harder for me to take Tarantino seriously. There's not enough there besides the ripoff elements and the predictable pseudo-shocking elements. I was impressed by Pulp Fiction when I first saw it, but not anymore.
-
that movie was 18 years ago and has dated badly, tarantino is coasting, jackie brown is his best film. but i wish paul newman had hadnt knocked back the lead role. nothing since has been that impressive, and his ridiculous rewriting of history in the 3rd act of inglorious was stupid
-
Corbucci also directed the awesome Navajo Joe, and The Terrence Hill/Ernest Borgnine starrer Super Fuzz. Come check out the Church of Cinematology, we all float down here! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Church-of-Cinematology/238442546284825?ref=hl

Pffffft. Moving on.
-
And he looks a lot like Terrence Hill from Super Fuzz. And Super Fuzz was shot in Florida. And Maitland is in Florida. Oh well, they must get the hipsters from UCF to go to their showings.

Tarantino doesn't have a single original molecule in his body?
by Jaka
Pulp Fiction begs to differ, and it would be right for doing so.
-
No, it isn't. And people who say so are usually doing so to be purposely contradictory, or they don't know enough about film to realize they're wrong. It can be your favorite, that's something completely different and it can't be argued. But it's not his best film in any way.
-
..but can you explain Bud Spencer?

jaka how do you determine his "best" film? How do you measure "best" ?
by Xen11
I know what you mean, but how do we measure that? I'm not going against what you're saying. Just trying to make sense of a silly thing us humans measure things like that. It's like awards shows; total bullshit. In that state of mind, I would think that Pulp Fiction is his best film, because of its unique palpable style it entranced and solidified as "cool" introduced by Quentin Tarantino. It was so "Tarantino". But my personal favorites of Quentin ranked would be thus (from favorite to least): Kill Bill Death Proof Pulp Fiction Reservoir Dogs Inglourious Basterds (I haven't seen Jackie Brown yet, so its omitted from this list. And, who knows, it could blow a big fucking hole in my statements above.) So going by my personal belief, Kill Bill is his best film and I stand by that. It's personal to me and I'd like to think its the most personal to Quentin as well. And Death Proof follows very closely on that same note. Xena Warrior Princess was a very important and underlying story of my life and Quentin basically made his own homage to that (amongst that whole genre that influenced it). Kill Bill is a modern day retelling of Xena: A woman who has done evil things but has now changed but can't outrun her guilt and the past with it. I can't wait for his next 'The Bride' installment that would mirror the best storylines of Xena: her relationship with Gabrielle and Callisto. Her innocence (embodied in her daughter) who will be forced to become like her mother to stop a woman (who embodies The Bride's guilty past) who is also innocent but was corrupted by The Bride's left-behind evil. The Bride has every right to die by that girl's sword because she created her through her revenge. The Bride will be forced to show her innocence (daughter) how to kill in order to then seek revenge on the girl out for revenge. (My guess is that the girl kills the husband of B.B. and she will thus seek revenge just like her mother did.) Death Proof is a sort of an extension of that love for Xena; as he casted Zoe Bell (the other half of Xena {stunt double}) as the lead in a celebration of the unsung hero that is a stunt person. Now Xena isn't the sole reason for those being my favorites, but they add-on to the appreciation to films that would still be my favorites among his works regardless. What I'm trying to say is that separating "favorite" from "best" because we try to anticipate others thoughts or feelings in to what is deemed "acceptable" by the masses is total bullshit. Fuck what's "appropriate". Fuck what's "acceptable". Fuck what people think.

I get tired of this constant glorification of old lousy movies. "magnificent" is just a tad generous in describing this film. Now 45 plus years ago this may have been a fun little movie and I recall seeing it at a drive-in and liking it, but I was a kid and probably stoned. But seriously, if you describe this movie as "magnificent" where does a truly good film fall in your orgasmic adjective bucket?? I use to love the Godzilla movies from my childhood and now I would not even attend a free showing of one because they are BAD movies. Time moves on as does taste. Some's "best" is someone elses "crap" and its your money to spend as you see fit. Harry always boasts of having a incredible number of movies and good for him if he is able to afford all that but how many does he really watch and where does all this time to watch them come from and to constantly and more often than not, overpraising lackluster B movies (at best) seems strangely odd to me. If you are a teenager or so I imagine this movie may be interesting, maybe, but consider if it is actually a "magnificent" movie or just another memory you want to relive form your childhood.
