Here's A New Trailer For EPIC!
Nordling here.
My personal jury''s still out on this one - the comedy feels a bit forced, but the involvement of Aziz Ansari will definitely help to assuage those fears. But it's an absolutely gorgeous trailer, and Blue Sky Studios looks like it will deliver one of the most lush landscapes in a CGI animated movie yet. Even though the characters are small, this seems, well, epic in scope, and I'm looking forward to seeing it this coming year. Really digging those beautiful greens. Here's the trailer:
EPIC, directed by Chris Wedge, opens this coming May.

Remember when Tangled and Brave were supposed to be animated in the style of oil paintings? Waterever happened to that interesting concept?

Pixar might as well be the only game in town, because everyone else is shit.

How To Train Your Dragon only decent non Pixar CGI animation, and even that was a bit shart because of the out of place American accents...
by FreeBeer
...Why are all the older Vikings fucking Scottish sounding and all the kids American highschoolers?

If I never see that annoying talking slug again, we'll all be better off.

Well, obviously none of us on here are the target audience...

I don't like the cool-speak or the jokes in this trailer and would have preferred something culturally different amongst those little creatures and people. But I have to sit back and think, okay, I am 38 years old, this movie isn't targeting my generation. This is made for little children. In that light, this looks fine and fun. So I'll bring my girlfriend and her kids to this and will enjoy it for what it is.
-
It isn't listed on my calendar. Does it come before or after December? Maybe this was just written by a time traveller who just came back from NEXT year and was a bit confused.

Nevermind....

Not sure about this one.

Dialogue? Not so much. Maybe watching this with the sound turned off would be a good idea.

I shall write in all capitals, declare facts, and spew out the most tasteless comments and just troll for a living.

The music is weird, the animation is jerky, the voices seem odd. I have nothing against the story and it seems great visually, but wow, it just seems really off.
-
To those complaining about the title Epic, Blue Sky is just taking a page out of Disney/Pixar's playbook: Up, Tangled, Brave, Frozen, etc.
-
And that girl seems a little too old for this type of "no longer a little girl" story.
-
at the 1:56 - 1:59 period, it appears as if she says "Ahh, F#*k It!!" If only.... Enjoyed the living treebark bit though... Just sayin'

Fuck you fuckers!! My daughter saw this trailer and really wants to see this!
by Just_Some_Guy
Yeah, the slugs are lame and kinda kill it, but I love getting kids to think that there is still magic in the world. I still dress as Santa Claus and do all kinds of shit to have my kids kids believe in the unbelievable. It's not lying, it's magic.
-
Sheesh!

The visuals look really good for this film, though they're nothing terribly new. I also would love to at some point to see less digital, more watercolor in the coming decade. Interesting concept for the story too, I guess, though it feels a little "been there." It's a animated movie, for God's sake, yes? You can draw anything you fucking want in the craziest, most interesting storytelling medium imaginable. And it's for kids too, right? So how about generating something insanely creative and heartfelt with lovingly rendered artwork that feels like art? Maybe this movie will surprise us. The battle sequences looked pretty solid, in all honesty, but I'm just not feeling anything truly new here. Hopefully there will be, I guess. We'll see.
-
It's cool your daughter saw the trailer and wants to see this. That's great. But getting your kids to "believe the unbelievable" isn't a healthy thing in the long run. It just isn't. It feels nice and happy and all that, which is what most brains crave, which is why superhero movies are so popular, but it also makes people credulous and flighty and unfocused in most other endeavors. Kids like magic, it's true. Magic being the easy answer for vastly complex problems that require enormous effort to solve or come close to solving. Magic not actually existing in any way, shape, or form, ever. The idea of magic becoming an addiction for people who require easy, patently false answers. "Lord of The Rings" magic works because Middle Earth is largely based on it. Beings of power require and mold it. That world is separate from ours in every way. There's no crossover. A kid's movie like "Epic," however, which is drawing heavily on "Lord of the Rings" influence, does cross over into ours. The girl in the trailer lives in our time, our America, and not Middle Earth. Thus there's no separation. In my opinion, it's lazy, kind of shallow writing, and I wish they had just set "Epic" in a fantasy world. It would' ve been much more exciting that way. But whatever. I do hope your daughter enjoys it.

I miss the days when animation didn't pander to modern audiences with sitcom jokes.
by sasquatch_with_a_swatch_watch
I miss animation, period
-
It has classic animation vibe, unlike the new Ice Age which went way overboard with violence and stupidness.
-
Getting your kids to 'believe the unbelievable' isn't a healthy thing in the long run. It just isn't.
-
I'm not re-typing it because I'm at work and this website is terrible. Suffice it to say, that statement above couldn't be further from the truth and you're talking out of your ass.
-
Eugh. Now I know what a westernised mincemeat version of a ghibli film is like. Then again, it's from Blue Sky so I shouldn't really be suprised- they wouldn't know how to make a decent film if their retirement packages depended on it.
-
Yeah? So, um, how's that working out for you?

Even though his comedic talent couldn't save the supremely AWFUL 30 Minutes or less, I definitely chose the less couldn't even make it 30 min in. But outside of that he's hilarious in everything else he's been apart of including The Kobe Bryant commercials the Kobe System LOL.

My hope is that CGI will end up being like bands like POISON and CINDERELLA were in the 90's...
by sasquatch_with_a_swatch_watch
and create such a backlash among kids starved for something real, that you will see a new generation of kids start to pick up the raw materials, many of them influenced by the classic rock of people like Chuck Jones and Ralph Bakshi... "The Hobbit" Lord of the Rings is way more Led Zeppelin than the whole Lord of the Rings.
-
It's bad when a character catching an arrow and then firing it back at the enemy has become lame and hackneyed.
-
Why the funny? And don't tell me "for the kids". Kids don't *have* to have funny animals.

Speck is a girl who is entering her tweens. She has a humble life full of hard work. When she is scolded by her father for trying to "play with toys" she runs away to a neighboring colony of ants. There it is discovered that she has an uncanny resemblance to the princess Dot. Dot, who is tired of being treated like a child and wants to venture out into the open sees an oppurtunity. She convinces Speck to trade places with her. But soon the girls learn that while they embraced each others differences, nothing can compare to the bonds of our family...or some shit like that.

Beats Brave anyway.
