Everyone Is Coming Back For The Next Chapter Of INSIDIOUS!!
The Kidd here...
If you thought everyone was either dead (Lin Shaye) or about to die (the rest of the original cast) in last year's INSIDIOUS, you couldn't be more wrong. Yesterday, FilmDistrict announced their plans for the sequel, INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2, which involves bringing back everyone - Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins - for next year's follow-up, with James Wan back behind the camera directing from another Leigh Whannell script. Ah... it's like they're putting the whole band back together.
I wasn't a big fan of INSIDIOUS... or at least not once they actually headed into The Further, and then a pretty solid film seemed to quickly head off the rails... but given the profit made by the original ($97 million gross worldwide from a $1.5 million budget), a sequel was a certainty, and I'm actually curious to see where Wan and Whannell decide to take the story next, given the revelation surrounding Wilson's character to close out the movie.
I'd imagine CHAPTER 2 may pick up exactly where the first one left off, if for no other reason than that's the only way Lin Shaye's reprisal makes any sense... but then again, anything can happen in the movies, whether sensical or not.
Production is expected to ramp up on INSIDIOUS come January, with a August 30, 2013 release date already being staked out on the calendar. That'd give Wan two summer horror films with THE CONJURING, which I'm hearing really strong positive things about, set to bow for Warner Bros. on July 19 already.

NO SPOILER WARNING?!? Jesus, I'd not seen the first one...
by irishraidersfan
Don't know if I'll bother now...
-
Oh yea, I don't fucking care.
-
I thought the movie was very good...until the ending. Never did I think there would be a #2.
-
2-3 years growth for that kid will make it hard to pick up right where the last one left off. Unless he just goes back to sleep and then who would know.
-
I haven't seen it yet, either, and I don't feel as if there's been anything spoiled by the above article.
-
That demon sharpening his knives...

I wasn't a big fan of..." should replace the "vs." in his review title. As in, "The Kidd wasn't a big fan of...
by AlienFanatic
Too bad he got rid of the cowboy on horseback .GIF. Would have suggested he replace the horse with a skunk.

One of the few horror movies in the last decade that stuck with me and creeped me the fuck out
by kidicarus
I thought the Further was done well (especially that creepy ass family) until he rescues his kid. Then yeah it gets a little silly.

I want to see the blue ghost of Patrick Wilson in Harder Candy.

Doesn't bother me.

I can't remember, did they kill Darth Maul in the first one?
by JRcanReid
If so, the new bad guy should be the German Anti Claus, The Krampus: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LILmkz08uwg/TuNz317DevI/AAAAAAAADTg/UsVivv-hPLE/s1600/krampus-4.jpg http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8fctlzkvF1ro0juro1_250.gif

...but doesn't need a sequel, aside from financial considerations.
-
obviously. the editing of the climax with the demon was intentionally ambiguous. I knew this was coming.
-
But failed miserably.

well crafted movie, but the ending was really stupid and predictable
by Raptor Jesus
Needs a smarter third act if the sequel isn't going to suck just as much as the 1st one.
-
It had a creepy first half, the shadow beside the bed, that ghost kid, then they had to show Darth Maul sharpening knives while listening to old timey music and crawling on walls..but it still ended well methinks. Do we need another one? As much as we needed another Saw and Paranormal Activity..
-
Am I the only one who can't keep all this horror crap straight?
-
one of the better horror movies I've seen in awhile.
-
never been a big fan of Wan's obsessive use of blue lights/filters, but he makes some pretty solid movies. I went to this expecting something very run of the mill and was quite impressed. Not sure they need a sequel, but shit, I love a horror franchise. If they can turn it into one, I'll see them.
-
A very, very effectively creepy film. But uhhhh.... I don't know where they'll go from here.

Yeah, put some SPOILER warnings up for the first movie, KIDD
by D.Vader
Come on, be a sport!
-
Don't be such a little bitch. Only a moron would click on a story about a sequel to a movie he hasn't seen and then cry about spoilers from said movie.
-
Beat me to the punch, m8; that Star Wars design rip-off bugged the ever-living hell out of me. Would have been so much better/creepier if they stuck w/ a design that actually matched the kid's drawings, but that lazy solution was a hugely annoying non-sequitur and ruined the movie completely for me.
-
...where Patrick Wilson was in the ghost realm or whatever it was. That was pretty creepy I guess. Hard to remember much of the rest of the movie.

Insidious was great until it became an almost blatant Poltergeist rip off, althought I did like the Further.

The Kidd = not a big fan of anything except himself and the blessedly absent Raven McCoy.
by reflecto
Insidious was great spookhouse fun in the William Castle vein - it started out scary and then became a wild funhouse ride near the end, but that was purposeful. A great night at the movies. Bring on the sequel.

Even Darth Insidious? Awesome. He was the most insidious of all the Darths.
-
how many years do you have to wait? if you haven't seen it in two years, then maybe you're not going to. by the way, snape kills dumbledore and bruce willis was dead all along.
-
It started out great, very creepy and whatnot, but went haywire pretty much when Shaye put on the seance gas mask. It did have one of the cleverest homages to another film I've ever seen, which also counts for something, but as a whole it sucked tank. Then again, I really liked Dead Silence so what do I know.
-
I don't care how long it's been. You can only ever see something for the first time ONCE. There's nothing older than two years you want to see, carmenaventura? And don't say that it limits discussion if you don't point out plot points. How hard is it to put a little warning up, then post whatever you like? To do otherwise is lazy and rude.

Loved it until they showed the Hot Topic Darth Maul demon
by DickBallsworth
At which point it went completely to shit. Also worth mentioning: the Mormon paranormal investigators. What a fucking mess.

You pretty much hit it right on the head.

Watched it on Sunday. Liked it enough... 7.5/10.. really well filmed. Would be interested in a sequel.

The little kid facing the wall in the laundry room as Rose Byrne passed through? Total throwaway shot. Creeped me the fuck out.
-
Poltergiest got to me as a kid, and Insidious got to me as an adult. So kudos to the entire cast and crew for finally making a movie that creeped me out as an adult (first time, BTW).
-
This was on a movie channel and I started watching it while doing other stuff. Within about ten minutes I dropped everything and watched the whole thing. It is scary as hell and bothersome. Like a regular haunted house movie but times 10. Weird imagery like the senace scene with the gas mask! The villians were horrific. This movie was awesome.
-
with the candle...creepy as shit, in the pictures of the dad growing up and then in the mirror. As a grown man that was one image / idea that plagued me for a bit.
-
You've finally figured out how to form paragraphs, but now you need to brush up on remedial grammar in order to better understand comma usage.
-
and the thought of Insidious makes it forever a little creepier. For months afterwards, playing Tiptoe was enough to creep my friend and I out, and it was damn tough to babysit my brother's kids in his big house in the burbs. The Further was a let down, but the flick had some damn good genuine scares, especially the scene with Rose Byrne walking through the house and the old lady. I long to get that freaked out by a film again, and also hate the idea of having those feelings linger as long as they did after the original.
-
... for the first half. Once it was revealed that the kid was just an astral walker, then it turned into "WTFness" real quick. What a stupid movie with a stupid ending, I can't see how they're gonna make a 2nd, especially with the same family. I dunno..
-
See, it's not that hard. How does Lin Shaye returning make sense? Was she not found by Rose Byrne dead in the chair?
-
I get what you mean now.
-
What ever you do, don't watch this before you go to bed!!!!!
-
That's what did it for me!!!!
-
You know the scene in Poltergeist with the steak crawling across the kitchen counter? In Insidious, the two paranormal investigators are sitting next to an identical counter, but instead of the meat slab crawling across it, one of the guys is applying the steak to his own face after receiving a blow there. I loved that bit.
-
The movie was fun, but the monster was shit.
-
For a movie thats almost 3 years old? Seriously they are only spoilers if the movie is in theatres or just out on DVD, a year beyond that its your fault for not being current.
-
betcha that was a spoiler for someone. lol

Pazuzu that's funny... like two minutes before that happeened I said "this movie just turned into Poltergeist"

But I didn't make the connection with the steaks.

I also figure they must have cast Barbara Hershey because of THE ENTITY
by Autodidact
In which she's haunted and molested by an otherworldly demon.

Nobody saw the little boy? Seriously I even got a bit freaked looking at it on Youtube later
by Autodidact
The thought of there being a ghost you don't notice is almost scarier than a ghost that gets all up in your face.
-
...the paranormal investigators arrived. It was like two completely different movies. It was nice slow burn ghost story and then BOOM wacky alternate dimension Ghost Busters.
-
Nov. 21, 2012, 10:31 a.m. CST
Yeah, autodidact, I noticed that little kid the first time too. Pretty damn impressive to be able to scare me using a daytime setting

Icarus... was it in the window? I don't know if I saw one in the corner
by Autodidact
But I'm sure I saw the old lady in the window behind the crib once or twice.

Yeah I think its when the wife hears noises around the house and walks upstairs
by kidicarus
She doesn't notice, but that guy in the cloak is standing by the crib behind a window curtain.
-
She can come back as a GHOST - because it's a GHOST story. Oh my god, really? Yes.
-
Nov. 23, 2012, 8:17 a.m. CST
She's probably not even dead... her spirit/soul probably fled into the further and part of the next movie will be bringing it back
by Autodidact
Either that or yeah she's dead and will come back as a ghost.
