That’s a Colt’s Dragoon. The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is no bigger than a corn nubbin, what’s it doing with that pistol?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Once again the harddrive in my laptop has failed me. I can’t say I didn’t see that coming, to be honest, but happened it did and so it’s thrown me in a bit of a spiral. I had a really cool BTS shot from The Spy Who Shagged Me planned, but that picture existed only on the laptop, not on my super stable and awesome desktop (I know you’re sentient and recognize these words as I type these into you, oh sweet iMac. You’d never betray me like your flakey Macbook Pro little bro. Not you, you amazing piece of machinery!).
So, I decided if I wasn’t going to have a funny Mike Myers picture, I’d go with a rather sweet shot from the making of the original True Grit as John Wayne poses with his son, Ethan, equipped with a gun belt, cowboy hat and his very own Rooster Cogburn eye patch.
Many thanks to William Forsche for digging this one up. Click to enlargen.

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic features a very young A list star goofing off with one Mr. Nick Charles.

Corn nubbin indeed.

Hey, it happens, though--lord knows I've lost enough crap over the years. And this is where I go work on my tertiary server (long story). Ethan's adorable with the eyepatch, though. Dang.

Quint, why don't you back-up your work? Thumb drives are cheap. External hard-drives are cheap. Hell, you can even use "the Cloud," but I would frown on that.

Fuck the cloud. It's not convenience. It's just advertising.

I'll take a BTS shot of The Duke anyday over that idiot Myers.

I keep wondring and I keep asking: who the hell has the kind of money to throw away on those Sideshow Statues? You keep advertising, who's buying?

They should have used his son for the prequel, where we learn how lost his eye. www.nonipplesonthesuit.com

People always whine about Apples being so much more expensive than Not-Apples (TM), but if you compare an Apple with a certain set of specs to a Not-Apple with the same specs, you're looking at about the same price.... ...unless you're willing to build it yourself. I built me a Hackintosh with two nice widescreen monitors for $1200. The equivalently equipped official Apple desktop would have cost $3000 without monitors. Not that this comment has anything at all to do with movies, so I guess I'll say that I don't get all the love for Mr. Wayne, and that I really enjoyed the recent Coen Bros remake of True Grit.

She taped it to her bedroom window. I told her that apples and windows don't mix well.

Don't mean to distract from the Apple drivel, but Big Jake was a great movie, starring John and Ethan . . .

Also add in Maureen O'Hara, Richard Boone, Patrick Wayne, Chris Mitchum, they don't make them like that anymore.

Built in, and external drives are super cheap. Or Carbon Copy Cloner? Or both? Especially if it's happened to you once already. I love my Mac (most of the time) but just like my home built PC, it uses hard drives. Hard drives fail. SSDs even more. I backup everything. EVERYTHING! Just to be extra careful, I even use an ioSafe solo. Got it cheap after rebate in case there's a fire or flood or something. And my stuff isn't even that important. Used to stream pics to MobileMe to share them, but iCloud sux, so I just use Picasa or Flickr or whatever when I feel like it. Backup man, backup.

He was too, you boys. I installed two-way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he come to the door in a dress...

First of all, Windows does not suck, especially Windows 7. My custom-built PC is a smooth, powerful machine with more capability than anything Apple produces for the home user. ( I've been working at Apple since 2009 as a contract employee. I've seen everything they make except certain projects in development, and after having a few years to speak with the employees and learn a thing or two, I am quite certain that I will never own any Apple product. Apple itself is also a big PC/Windows user; I've been in many Apple buildings and I've yet to work in one where there weren't at least a few PCs running Windows in an important operational capacity. ) As far as the -POTD is concerned, True Grit was the only John Wayne picture I ever saw in the theater on its initial release. To my young eyes, Kim Darby was quite believable in her role, and The Duke was quite entertaining ( though I am a bit skeptical of his getting an Oscar for it ). Is the Coen Brothers opus a better film? Very likely so, though it may not be a more entertaining film... which is rather a different matter. Thanks for the pic, Quint!

I guess everybody figured out during Hurricane Sandy how reliable "The Cloud" is. Especially when you have morons putting back up Generators stories up, with no way to fuel em'...Duh
-
I find the Coen Brothers' adaptation far superior. Hailiee Steinfeld was also more convincing in the role than Kim Darby.
