AICN Toys: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL, THE EXPENDABLES 2, Diamond Select Marvel Select, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, MIAMI CONNECTION!, And More!!
John Ary here with a quick look at a few action figure lines making headlines this week. As always click on the photos for an embiggened pic and for more information follow the pre-order links...
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol from Medicom
Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to find this imported M:I4 Ghost Protocol figure of Tom Cruise from Medicom. This 12-inch version of Ethan Hunt depicts him just before climbing the Burj Khalifa. It features climbing gloves, a pistol and figure stand. He will arrive in February or you can pre-order him here.
The Expendables 2 from Diamond Select Toys
A trio of Expendables will soon get immortalized with 7-inch action figures courtesy of Diamond Select Toys. Here are new pics of Gunner, Hale Caesar and two versions of Barney in package. Each figure will feature multiple points of articulation and military gear. Look for this team to get a piece of the action in December or you can pre-order the set here.
New Marvel Select Figures from Diamond Select Toys
Coming soon to a Disney Store near you, three new Marvel Select figures and a Spider-Man: Fearsome Foes box set. Savage Hulk will tower above the other figures, standing 9 inches tall and sporting 16 points of articulation. The Lizard shows off a new sculpt, with his scaly long snout and tongue. He will also have 16 points of articulation and a New York City display base. A 7-inch version of Flash Thompson as Venom rounds out the trio. He comes with two weapons and a wreckage-strewn display base. Finally there is the new four pack featuring Spidey, Lizard, Venom and Green Goblin. These figures will only be available at the Disney Store this holiday season, as well as at marvelstore.com and disneystore.com. Savage Hulk is available now at the Marvel Store site.
Dark Knight Rises Play Arts Kai from Square Enix
Whether you liked Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises or loathed its multiple plot holes and inconsistencies, there is simply no denying how nice these new action figures look from Square Enix. They stand a little under 10 inches tall and feature multiple points of articulation, alternate hands, a display stand, characters specific accessories and window box packaging. Look for these to hit the states in June or you can pre-order Bane and Batman.
Miami Connection from Drafthouse Films
I know that these action figures do not actually exist, but I dearly want them to. As a nice bit of PR, Drafthouse Films debuted these pics of fake G.I. Joe inspired action figures for the upcoming release of Miami Connection over on Nerdist. Terry Malloy and I got to check out the film at Fantastic Fest this year and were blown away by its schlocky 80's ninja action, catchy synth-pop soundtrack, and unbelievable moments of dramatic gravitas. You can see our review of the film here. Seriously, can we start a letter writing campaign or Kickstarter to get these into production? The movie releases on Blu-ray December 11.
And finally this week, kudos go out to animationGod1997 for this Bumblebee versus Ironhide stop-motion video. Well done.

Apart from Tom Cruise, of course.

do I earn if I purchase that Ethan Hunt figure? I've almost got enough to send away for my official Tom Cruise Nondisclosure Marriage Contract.

Between the Tom Cruise action figure, the Expendables figures, muscle and leather bound Bane, and the mustacchioed men from Miami, this is easily the gayest AICN article ever.

If Tom Cruise held an Ethan Hunt figure on the top of his head, the combined length would almost make him a person of average height.

Actually, the probable only reason for an Ethan Hunt figure to exist is to serve as decoys for shit events Cruise would rather not be at...like sexual intercourse with Katie Holmes. The fool.

I've just made a right mess of my keyboard looking at that beautiful Ethan Hunt figure. I love Tom so much, and now I get to fuck his ass in the privacy of my own living room.

Fuck you, John Ary. You are the beginning of the end for aicn. Really. I never hated any writer of any site until you came on the scene. Kudos.
And fuck you. Talentless worm.
Nov. 9, 2012, 8:02 a.m. CST
Awwww, sounds like mariusxe wants to marry you and continue his role as the bottom, Ary.

It's cool. I would rather be a worm than a rage filled goon with nothing better to do than write spiteful comments in a toy article on a website that celebrates geek culture. C'est la vie!

Comon let's play! Wait I've got to choose which hands to out on my figure. Will there be a fruit cup? Ya know? Will my figure perhaps need to hold utensils for today's play date?
Nov. 9, 2012, 9:33 a.m. CST
Naw. I was thinking we'd pretend to break batman's back with my bane figure. Ok well then I'll put the hands on batman that look like they're flailing.

look more like the comic version with really ripped arms & veins filled with venom? Nolan's version was just a regular guy essentially with average muscles.
Nov. 9, 2012, 12:13 p.m. CST
I think you are part of the better side of AICN. Keep up the great work.
Nov. 9, 2012, 12:17 p.m. CST
I'm not, so fuck your mother mariusxe. I know that you don't need defending John as you've proven time and again with your humble yet cutting replies. Thanks for your many contributions... and for the sex.

What's your deal with this, man? Did he push you off a swing when you were a kid? Did he fuck your chick? WHAT? Please have a good story behind this. If it's just "he sucks", well...that's SOOOO BOOORING. Use some creativity, you incredible asshole.

...I love your articles, man. The reviews (video and text) are some of the most down-to-earth and honest on the site. Keep on keeping on, man. I have to say, though? It would be even MORE awesome if I could AFFORD any of these things. JEEEEZE.

That interview with Boogaloo Shrimp still makes you a shining light of cool in this place.

It ends on the 12th and if they don't get enough pre-orders they won't make it (it's pretty to the minimum order number but could still not happen). It's in scale with 6 or 7 inch figures (The Masters of the Universe Classics line) and they don't bill you until it's shipped a year from now (even the pre-authorization is $0.00) so if you've been wanting one this is the time. They're even having Rudy Obrero who did the original Box Art for the vintage Castle Grayskull back to do the artowrk for this one. All the details are at mattycollector (add a dot com).

They got ol' Bruce Wayne just bulging out of the Batman suit, don't they, it looks like his biceps and thighs are going to explode right out of those hardened kevlar plates over titanium-dipped tri-weave fibers... for flexibility.
Nov. 9, 2012, 6:33 p.m. CST
Hey Ultratron, you self absorbed douchebag, you pose them then display them on a shelf! What? Are you not a real geek after all?!
Nov. 9, 2012, 6:56 p.m. CST
Begin a petition to get a John Ary figure made! Call Kickstarter, Todd McFarlane! Then again, this would give mariusxe an effigy/voodoo doll to use.
I still don't get why some contributors earn so much hate, i just don't get it. If anyone is slightly frustrating, its Harry...but I don't go into a beserker rage about it.
